REFLECTION ON LITURGY

Liturgy comes from the Greek words ‘litos’ which means people in the community and
‘ergo’ which means actions to do. This is the divine worship of the Church and includes the
celebration of Mass, the celebration of the Sacraments, and the Divine Office or Daily Prayer of
the Church. The celebration of the Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith, and so all
other liturgies flow from and to the celebration of Mass. The sacraments are efficacious signs of
grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, by which divine life is dispensed to us.
The visible rites by which the sacraments are celebrated signify and make present the graces
proper to each sacrament.

Liturgy provides action of the Church to gather people and pray. The church is where we
exercise the priestly offers of the Jesus Christ like the Sunday Masses. When people go to
church, we really feel all blessed because of the sacraments being done. Through our faith during
liturgy, the church is strengthened by God’s grace. Even if the church acts as an instrument to
spread God’s words to the people, our celebration in liturgy makes us serve and praise God
more.

During times like this where there is a crisis ongoing, our faith and actions on how we
value God is really tested and strengthened. If only all the people will participate in celebrating
the liturgy, our prayers can move mountains. It does not matter if we cannot go to church, what
matters is how engaged are we to join the celebration.  Through the liturgy, Christ continues the
work of our redemption with His people. Since it is recommended to practice social distancing
during this pandemic, at its best we can celebrate liturgy still by offering daily prayers sincerely.
We can also practice allotting time for our devotions in praying the rosary altogether with our
family. The primary part of this celebration will consist of reading out loud the selected readings
for Mass. We can also show the celebration of liturgy by loving God and our neighbors.
Remember that liturgy meant the actions we do as a community to worship God. God asks us all
to the lay faithful and find ways best for our situations.
