Freeform Poetry I

Elizabeth Perkins
For Professor Michaels
I will never agree
I will never nod and shrink
Even if everyone else goes and does just that
I will never agree
I will never nod and shrink
I refuse to keep my mouth shut
I’ll resist as long as I exist

My screams are muffled

The walls are see-through
And I’m given the crown of traitor
For not agreeing like the rest
The only surprise is who I’m shunned by
Friends become foes and foes plan my fall

I refuse!
I refuse to be afraid
I’ll keep chaos around my wrist
Even if the response to it is hate
Justice is what I decide
You can beat me down and drag me away
But to give up is to accept my soul’s death
If you want to conquer me
Destroy me from the inside
Are you going to agree?
Are you going to nod and shrink?
Are you doing like everyone else and do it?
Your pride discarded to the side
Are you scared?

Anger rises from the ashes

As my arm and head are twisted side to side
Leave me out for speaking out
And not choosing to turn a blind eye
But my voice will be heard

The power I hold is a hazard

And I’ll believe in freedom
The door to a new world opens
And you decide if you join or not
