Zombies Essay

The song Zombie was originally written by the lead singer of The Cranberries Dolores O’
Riordan in 1993. The Cover is by the group Bad Wolves and what I think the difference between
the versions of the songs is that they changed some of the lyrics to modernize what is going on
in the world today. Both songs have the same meaning that the government needs to change
because it doesn’t focus on what the citizens want. The newer version by Bad Wolves
contributes to the old and contributes the song to Dolores O’ Riordan who died.

The original song was written in 1993 the song is about a bombing that happened and
that killed two children. Their names were Johnathan Bell and Tim Parry and the bombing took
place in England By the group the IRA. She wanted to write a song to show peace. She was
talking about the war that started in 1916 and the horrible things that have happened because of
that war. The music video has videos and pictures of things like soldiers with guns and bombs
going off and lastly, they also have kids running around. The reason they wrote this song was
very close to the people in the band because they are from Ireland and the IRA fought off the
British troops so that they could get out of Northern Ireland.

The song that was written and recorded by the bad Wolves also has a great meaning
behind it. The lead singer of the band The Cranberries that produced the original song died so
they contributed the song to her. They gave the money that they made from the song to her
kids. They keep a lot of the same original lyrics because of the incredible meaning behind them
but change a bit to modernize the song. The lead singer that sang this version is Tommy Vext.
He wanted to remake it because he wanted to bring back the message they had in the original
song.

At the beginning of the video of the Zombie song written by Bad Wolves it says “ On
January 15, 2018, The Cranberries Dolores O’Riordan was set to reprise her iconic vocals”.
They wanted everyone to know that she wanted to record a new cover but she dies so it also
says “That day, she tragically left the world. In her memory Bad Wolves released her song,
donating proceeds to her children.” That means that they really wanted people to know that
because of her the powerful message that she had in the lyrics of the song is shared today. It’s
very important for the audience to know that because she made a big difference with her music
that they are bringing back.

During the song, they have a lady that is painted in gold and is wearing something
similar to what Dolores was wearing in the original video. There is also a glass between the
people singing the song and the lady. The lady that is painted gold has gold paint and paints on
the glass that is between them. She paints the date that Dolores died which was 1-15-18 which
shows a very good tribute to Dolores. This means that the band Bad Wolves wanted to show
the audience how good of a difference she made in the world and how that this song that she
sang meant a lot that had a positive influence on the world.
 In the original song, there are videos of little children they are running around. The video
also shows soldiers with guns in their hands walking around. This shows what they are talking
about in their lyrics about the current war that they are going through and all the horrible things
that have happened because of it. They didn’t do that in the remake but the lyrics they still kept
to remember about the things going on in the world today. The remake changed some of the
lyrics to modernize it. I feel like that is something to be aware of because that means the things
they talk about in the song are still going on today and that is what they wanted to express. The
audience of the song is everyone who hears the song because they felt like everyone had to
hear the message they are trying to send.

The lyric “the violence causes silence” plays a big part in the message they are trying to
portray because they aren’t doing anything about what is going on in the world today. Now you
know that both songs have the same meaning that the government needs to change because it
doesn’t focus on what the citizens want. You now know the evidence that the newer version by
Bad Wolves contributes to the old and contributes the song to Dolores O’ Riordan who died.
