Week 1:

MANAGING STRESS IN ADOLESCENT

1. What is stress? Is it always negative?

 Stress is the body's reaction to any change that requires an adjustment or

response. The body reacts to these changes with physical, mental, and
emotional responses. Stress is a normal part of life. You can
experience stress from your environment, your body, and your thoughts.
stress has negative effects on us, both physically and psychologically. But in the
short term, stress can have a positive impact on us and our behaviour.

2. What are the 2 types of stress? Cite two examples each.

 The first type of stress is Eustress, it is a positive form of stress having a

beneficial effect on health, motivation, performance and emotional well-
being.

 The second type of stress is Distress, it is a negative form of stress, which

is unwelcome, uncomfortable, or exceeds the capacity of the individual
experiencing it to cope.
Cite 4 negative ways to deal with stress.
3. the first negative way to deal with
stress is having poor eating habits.
Many people deals with stress by
eating too much.

the second one is lashing out at

others. This is an unhealthy way to
cope or consumed by stress, we may
express it by taking it out on others.

the third one is self-harming. Self-

harm is another coping strategy that
is fairly obviously not a healthy way to
go. It doesn’t work in the long run and
we are absolutely not advocating for
self-harm in any way.

the
fourth one is oversleeping.
Sleeping too much is a sign of
ordered sleep. It maybe
connected to a mental health issue
such as depression.
Cite 4 positive ways to deal with stress.
the first one is time management. Time
management is the process of planning
and exercising concious control of time
spent on specific activities specially to
increase effectiveness, efficiency, and
productivity.

the second one is hobby. A hobby is a

regular activity done for enjoyment,
typically during one’s leisure time not
professionally and not for a pay.

the third one is relax. Everyone has that

one thing they do or go to when
everything feels too much, do whatever
it is that helps you release all that stress
may it be a happy place, plans with
friends, a vacation or music.

the fourth on is learn to say no. Set your

mindset in such a way that stress won’t
easily present itself to you. Check your
habits. Sometimes it’s what we do that
causes stress and we don’t realize it.
Cite 2 negative effects of stress
Emotional stress. Emotional stress
that stays around for weeks or months
can weaken the immune system and
cause high blood pressure,
deppression, anxiety and even heart
disease.

Physical stress. The sign of stress

can include an increase in heart and
breathing rates, dilated pupils and
tensed muscle.

Cite 2 positive effects of stress

It can make you stronger. Dealing
with manageable stressful situations
can make such situation in the future
easier to handle.

It motivates you to succeed. It’s going

to encourage your behaviour to
manage the situation effectively and
more productively. Success can
achieved in the workplace, in sports or
in a creative if it’s driven by pressure.

Week 2:

MENTAL HEALTH AND WELL BEING AMONG ADOLESCENT

1. What do you think is the three most common mental health problems
among adolescents. Explain.

 Depression. Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent

feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Also called major depressive
disorder or clinical depression, it affects how you feel, think and
behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems.
You may have trouble doing normal day-to-day activities, and
sometimes you may feel as if life isn't worth living. Depression is not
a normal part of growing older, and it should never be taken lightly.
Unfortunately, depression often goes undiagnosed and untreated in
older adults, and they may feel reluctant to seek help.

 Anxiety. Anxiety is your body’s natural response to stress. It’s a

feeling of fear or apprehension about what’s to come. The first day of
school, going to a job interview, or giving a speech may cause most
people to feel fearful and nervous. Anxiety feels different depending
on the person experiencing it. Feelings can range from butterflies in
your stomach to a racing heart. You might feel out of control, like
there’s a disconnect between your mind and body

Eating Disorder. Eating disorders are a range of psychological conditions

that cause unhealthy eating habits to develop. They might start with an
obsession with food, body weight, or body shape. In severe cases, eating
disorders can cause serious health consequences and may even result in
death if left untreated. Those with eating disorders can have a variety of
symptoms. However, most include the severe restriction of food, food binges,
or purging behaviors like vomiting or over-exercising.
I’ve learned that mental and physical health are equally important
components of overall health.  Mental illness, especially depression,
increases the risk for many types of physical health problems.

What are your stressors? Cite 3 and briefly share about it.
 Low self-esteem. I am always conscious about myself.
 Fear of Failure. Failing makes me worry about what other people think
about me and makes me worry about my ability to pursue my future.
 Fear of being alone. Sometimes I felt abandoned in life before. And
sometimes I don’t believe in myself.

In your experience, enumerate your own ways to keep your mental state
healthy.
 I pray
 I listen to music
 I watch Netflix movies/series

Week 3:

EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE
1. Identify examples of basic and secondary emotions. And using 3-5
sentences differentiate basic from secondary emotion.

Primary emotions are more transient than secondary emotions which is

why they are less complicated and easier to understand. The first thing
we feel is directly connected to the event or stimulus but as time passes
we struggle to connect the same emotion with the event because our
emotions have changed. While Secondary emotions are much more
complex because they often refer to the feelings you have about the
primary emotion. These are learned emotions that we get from our
parents or primary caregivers as we grow up. For example, when you
feel angry you may feel ashamed afterward or when you feel joy, you
may feel relief or pride.

From your own point of view, which do you think is more important EQ
or IQ or both? Explain and justify your answer.
 Emotional Intelligence is more important than IQ. Because your
emotional intelligence and social intelligence are much greater
determinants of the success you will achieve in life. Our
emotional skills have a direct and important bearing on our
relationships with others. We need to understand our feelings,
where they came from, and how to properly express them. We
will not maintain healthy relationships unless we can control our
feelings in a constructive manner and understand the feelings
of others.

1. How important it is for you to know, understand, and manage one’s

and other’s emotion.
 It will always be important for us to know, understand, and
manage one’s and others emotion. By understanding and
managing my emotions and other people’s emotion, I can give
a better communication while interacting them. Pick up
emotional cues, from body language, tone of voice, and other
non-verbal elements of communication. Listen well to what
other people saying, actively checking their understanding and
you may find it helpful.

Week 4:

PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP

 As we define personal relationship and regardless how

intimate it could be conflicts are inevitable. Knowing this how
will manage and flourish your personal relationship.
Family – for me, our relationship with our family is the most important
thing for me because they are the person that will always be there for
you through thick and thin. Strong relationships teach us how to build
trust in others as family members share both good and bad times
together.

Friends – true friendship is what gives us reason to stay

strong in life. Having a loving family is and all is okay but you also
need true friendship to be completely happy in our life. Some people
don’t even have families but they have a real friends who like their
own family. In a true friendship, a person can be themselves
completely without the fear of being judged. It makes me feel love
and acceptable.
