Abstract

This research presented a new web-based inventory, items reservation, and point of sale

(POS) system with mobile application that was developed in order to respond for the

organizational need of the Francis Merchandise of new information systems. Specifically, the

motive behind the inventory, items reservation, and point of sale (POS) system with mobile

application was to address the handicaps of the existing manually operated inventory, items

reservation, and point of sale (POS) system, namely the unavailability, inaccuracy, and

inaccessibility of data and the overall slowing down of the inventory, items reservation and

point of sale (POS) process.

The researchers gathered data from both customers and end-users through the conduct of pre-

test and post-test survey to know the very need of the Francis Merchandise in implementing

their proposed system. The respondents for the pre-test and post-test surveys were 30

customers and 7 end-users.

The researchers used comparative method to evaluate the manual-based system from the

proposed web-based system. The result showed that majority of the respondents was strongly

dissatisfied on the utilization of manual-based system whereas they strongly satisfied that it

was effective and efficient to implement a web-based inventory, items reservation, and point

of sale (POS) system with mobile application.

The Waterfall Model was the software development process used in the development this

study.

Our society is at the speed where everything is constantly changing. All the things

that you can see are the effects of our modern technology. We start on doing all things

manually from paper works to high risk jobs, but now, things are a lot different. If you want

to compete with our growing society today, you must learn and do all your things with the

touch of technology.

Communication is the best example how our advancement on technology is. You can

seldom see someone writing on a piece of paper and sending it to the post office and wait a

week, a month or a year for your receiver to receive the letter. But because of technology,

you can send messages as fast as a blink of an eye. There is no need for a hassle to write a

letter, go to the post office and wait longer for someone to receive it, you just have to

compose and send it through Internet in a matter of seconds. The receiver will receive the

message and reply just like you are talking in front of each other even you are in different

distant locations.

The modern society uses technology in transportation. The modern machines are used

to modern vehicles that make the travel easier and faster such as in trains, busses, cars, and

bicycles. They were built for us to go from one place to another in a more relaxing way.

Also, buying things for our needs are now easier to do. It is just one click away on

your computer to place orders and buy or purchase something online. It is not like in the old

times that you have to go from market to another just to find and buy all your needs, but now

the Internet caters these transactions.

Machines helps us to do our paper works today as fast as we can. Manually, we have

to write or compose on a paper to make a report for our managers. But now, by the use of

computers, you can now do it digitally and print it for presentation without a hassle.

Medical fields are also now on its advancement. Hospitals are the ones that have the

most advanced technology. They need it for knowing how the patients should be taken care

of. As easily as connecting and clicking on their machines to the human body, doctors can

provide an accurate medication for the patients who need them. They are using tools that can

travel inside the human body to identify the cause of their illness.

We are now on the age of computer, competitively fighting and modernly adapting to

the advancement of the society and technology. The urge of the people of doing things easier

and faster are the greatest key to producing more things and building machines that can

efficiently help them to achieve their goals.

People are now doing things in a practical way. We need technology to help us to

reach our dreams and to produce more efficient outputs. It is more appropriate to say that

we are now depending on technology that we have today. It should be the one adapting to

people but in reality we are the ones who are depending and coping with technology.

We are now growing the same as the technology today. It is the key for our bright

future and also our foundation to develop more to fulfill the satisfaction of the coming

generation.

“Technology has changed business in many ways, but its effect on communication is

arguably the most significant. Indeed, according to Walden University College of

Management and Technology, communication through email, text messaging, instant

messaging and even budding tools like social networking have been "among the most

TVL-ICT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT, MONDRIAAN AURA COLLEGE

profound effects of technology on every area of business."Technology did make business

communications faster and easier.”

As we can see nowadays, technology truly affects business communication mostly for

online businesses. Social networking sites are used to communicate for selling and buying

something what you are needed. Placing orders online and searching for the most affordable

offer that will suit your budget.

Christina (2015) said, “There is a lot of innovation in the mobile/Information

Technology (IT) and energy spaces that have the potential to make a huge impact on the

farm. For example, smart power systems, precision agriculture tools, farm management

software, and affordable sensors are all within reach of even the smallest farmers today.

From Nairobi to San Francisco and from Tallin to Sydney, entrepreneurs are taking

advantage of new technology that makes these products possible. We see potential in radio

frequency technologies (RFID, NFC, Bluetooth), the Internet of Things and the big data that

comes along with it, as well as in clean technology advances from ambient energy, to waste-

to-energy, to renewable sources.”

In agriculture, technology are used to process different kind of things into energy like

waste, wind, and water and convert into electricity to help our agriculture and farmers to

process or produce more kinds of crops that will benefits the people.

“Research literature throughout the past decade has shown that technology can

enhance literacy development, impact language acquisition, provide greater access to

information, support learning, motivate students, and enhance their self-esteem. Indeed,

researchers have affirmed that computer technology provides abundant opportunities for
WEB-BASED FRANCIS MERCHANDISE INVENTORY, ITEMS
RESERVATION AND POINT OF SALE SYSTEM (POS)

students to build or modify their personal knowledge through the rich experiences that

technology affords.”

Technology has a big impact in education. It helps students attentively to study more

because of what they obtain from it. Multimedia presentations are more effective to use

nowadays because they help more students to watch, listen, and easy to remember the

discussion. It can boost their imagination and understand their lessons.

“Samsung digital appliances have introduced a new washing machine that offers an

innovative solution made to fit Filipino moms perfectly. It comes with the features that suit

the needs of modern moms and solve the most talked about problems in clothes-washing-

labor intensive, inefficient cleaning, and damaged clothes. It was designed not just to make

the pre-treating practice more convenient, but to revolutionize the Filipino laundry process.”

It is said that even household chores are now being digitalized based on the needs and

satisfaction of every consumer. Technology helps people to lessen their hard work and time

consumption but having the ability to produce more accurate works.

“The airport control tower in Sweden has an unobstructed view of the future. The big

picture is provided form a 10-meter mast where a gray turret holds an array of digital video

cameras, sensor and microphones. The system is meant to collect and integrate information

of the sort that Mr. Granquist, 40, has been providing with his own eyes and ears as an air

traffic controller for the last 17 years at this small airport in northern Sweden. The

information from this array, though, is being sent elsewhere by fiber-optic cable to a window

less room at another airport.”

Larger facilities are now upgrading because of technology. They are not limited to

what they have today but they want to have more for the satisfaction of their clients or
WEB-BASED FRANCIS MERCHANDISE INVENTORY, ITEMS
RESERVATION AND POINT OF SALE SYSTEM (POS)
WITH MOBILE APPLICATION 6

TVL-ICT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT, MONDRIAAN AURA COLLEGE

customers. They are putting more efforts to compete to other big facilities by using the touch

of technology.

“The Navigate that created by Billie Whitehouse provides an electronic device in the

garment gives a light tap on one shoulder or the other to steer a person, not unlike a phone

vibrating to announce a call. The directions come by Bluetooth from a person’s phone to the

electronic in the shoulder. There is a no sign of the gadgetry in the jackets. “Wearable

technology should be invisible” she said. “And you’ll be able to see things around you with

your own eyes, instead of looking at the world through screen.””

Now, technology used even in clothing industry. It helps people to express their

fashion statement. They are now competing at the world of fashion using the said technology.

Technology is also an application of science to solve a problem. But what you have to

know is that technology and science are different subjects which work hand-in-hand to

accomplish a specific task or to solve a particular problem.

Ramey (2013) said, “technology is a body of knowledge devoted to creating tools,

processing actions and extracting of materials. The term ‘Technology” is wide and everyone

has their own way of understanding the meaning of technology. We use technology to

accomplish various tasks in our daily lives, in brief; we can describe technology as products,

processes or organizations. We use technology to extend our abilities, and that makes people

as the most important part of any technological system.”

Bryant (2015) mentioned, “technology is a broad concept that has come to refer to

breakthroughs in science that allow for a better or automated solution. While the most

obvious benefit to technology in small business is increased productivity--which translates

into a lower cost structure--there are some other benefits that can help the bottom line as

TVL-ICT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT, MONDRIAAN AURA COLLEGE

well. Improved speed, the ease of sharing and storing information and a decrease in human

error through automation add up to a reduction in costs and an increase in revenue.”

Technology is also now used as a tool for buying and shopping online to lessen the

time consuming personal shopping of consumers.

comScore.com (2015) mentioned, “retail continues to evolve as some online shoppers

consider using mobile technologies in store: 33% find electronic shelf labels appealing, 29%

said they will consider mobile checkout, and 27% said they are open to using touch screens

to receive information, make purchases or arrange deliveries.”

IJARCSMS (2014) said, “A good marketer constantly adapts to change and to

satisfying consumers needs in better way. Sometimes opportunity to address the consumers

in better way is designed by marketers himself and sometimes it is offered by the technology.

Internet is changing the way consumers shop for goods and services and has rapidly evolved

into a global event.”

Pang (2016) mentioned, “Today, a large part of online purchases in Southeast Asia

takes place on mobile. With Shopee’s availability here in the Philippines, Filipinos can now

fully experience a free, highly intuitive social mobile interface, where anyone can buy and

sell in less than 30 seconds, even when on-the-go”.

Technology can also be applied to enhance different kind of business commodities

and e-commerce such as reservation and also to present your country as an attractive

destination to other nation.

Eclevia (2015) said, “This research presented a new reservation system which is web-

based and enhanced with mobile application that was developed in order to response in the

needs of Tri Star car reservation. Specifically, the motive behind the reservation system
WEB-BASED FRANCIS MERCHANDISE INVENTORY, ITEMS
RESERVATION AND POINT OF SALE SYSTEM (POS)

TVL-ICT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT, MONDRIAAN AURA COLLEGE

development was to address the flaws of the existing manually operated reservation system

namely, the inaccuracy, the inaccessibility and the insecurity of the data and the overall

slowing down of the inventory process.”

Techconomy (2014) added, “Companies developing tech-based solutions for

consumers in emerging markets see great opportunities in the Philippines today. A growing

number of innovative visionaries view the country as a testing ground for products and

services with potential for global scale. More are likely on their way.”

Academia (2013) said, “There is no doubt about it that ecommerce has made the

transactions smooth, quick, faster and easier. Both the sellers and the buyers get benefited by

his technology. As we all are aware that Commerce and Business are the backbones of a

country’s development, if they were supported by the electronic technology and tools like e-

commerce, it will make wonders in the economical growth of the country.”

Harvard Business Review (2015) said, “Technology start-ups are the Philippines’

latest customers and more are flocking to the country’s beach-laden shores each year.

Beyond the obvious labor cost savings, the Philippines is an attractive destination for tech

jobs, particularly for American companies, because of its young, educated workforce and its

English-speaking population (the fifth largest on the planet).”

Technology is also used as monitoring different kind of medical information of

human body and also be a power source.

Tesalona (2015) said that Nanotechnology is the hottest thing in food supplement and

cosmetics. The effect goes deeper below skin surface to give better results. Fine Japan

manufactures low molecular weight hyaluron, collagen and ubiquinol, the main ingredients

of HyC150 which are readily absorbed in the intestinal tract. Nanotechnology delivers

increased benefits to users in terms of repair and healing of skin tissues.

Topol (2013) mentioned, “Digital innovations have now made it possible for

consumers to use portable devices to access their medical information, monitor their vital

signs, take tests at home and carry out a wide range of tasks.

University of Washington engineers (2015) said, "For the first time we have shown

that you can use Wi-Fi devices to power the sensors in cameras and other devices," said lead

author Vamsi Talla, a UW electrical engineering doctoral student. "We also made a system

that can co-exist as a Wi-Fi router and a power source—it doesn't degrade the quality of your

Wi-Fi signals while it's powering devices."

Moving one place to another is now easier and comfortable using vehicles that have

been made by technology.

Aguiton (2013) said, "The invention of the car allowed us to save time, when

compared to walking. However, it also made us want to go further by giving us this option,

so overall we spend more time getting to places. The same is true for other technologies -- we

want to travel to more countries, learn more, and fall in love more often. The search for

content and experience has become the meaning of life for many."

Some companies in Olongapo City recognized the potential of using the web-based

inventory system. One of them is the Merrynation Food Processing.

Alfonso (2015) said, “This research presented a new inventory system which is web-

based and enhanced with mobile application that was developed in order to response in the

needs of Merrynation Food Processing. Specifically, the motive behind the inventory system

development was to address the flaws of the existing manually operated inventory system

namely, the inaccuracy, the inaccessibility and the insecurity of the data and the overall

slowing down of the inventory process.”

The Francis Merchandise was a business that has been operating in many years and

using manual-based inventory, item reservation, and generating sales reports. We recognized

the need of the computerization of every process in the business. The owner considered our

proposal because of the benefits that could be obtained upon the implementation of

computerization process.

The research would aim to develop a Web-based Francis Merchandise Inventory,

Items Reservation, and Point of Sale (POS) System with Mobile Application that would

include the following areas: (1) monitoring of the system when using a Remote Login

feature; (2) creating accounts for customers that would allow them to add or cancel their

reservation depending on specific time bracket; (3) assigning user accounts and roles for

different end-users of with different levels of accessibility; (4) generating sales reports; (5)

updating the content of the website; and (6) scheduling of backing up of the records in the

database. This would help the business process faster, reliable, accurate, efficient, and

secured.

Description of the manual inventory, item reservation and point of sale system at

Francis merchandise

The ordered wholesale items arrive at the receiving area of the store. Then, the staff

checks the delivered items and places them in the store room.

For the manual inventory, the staff checks the items individually. He/she initially

writes the needed information such as date of the delivery, the name of the items, and the

number of items on a paper. The list of inventoried items was copied and encoded one by one

RESERVATION AND POINT OF SALE SYSTEM (POS)
WITH MOBILE APPLICATION 11

TVL-ICT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT, MONDRIAAN AURA COLLEGE

using the MS Excel. This manual process may lead to data redundancy, data insecurity, and

data lost/damage. They sort the items according to their category. The sorted light-weight

items were displayed at the store but the heavy ones were temporary placed at the store room

for later retrieval.

Ordered items by the customers were manually transacted through phone calls. The

staff prepared the ordered items and the customers received them at the given date. Written

verification of transaction was not recorded properly that may lead to data inaccuracy and

unverifiable. The reports of the point of sale for the day were also checked by the owner

manually. This manual process consumes too much time and effort for the owner of the

business establishment.

Prospects from the new Web-based Francis Merchandise Inventory, Items Reservation,

and Point of Sale (POS) System with Mobile Application

Capabilities

The proposed Web-based Francis Merchandise Inventory, Items Reservation, and

Point of Sale (POS) System with Mobile Application would provide solutions to the

problems encountered by the staff and the owner in the manual process. The proposed system

allowed more organization of data than the manual inventory process because it could notify

the end-users about what were the description and the number of items needed to be ordered

and restocked.

Flexible online item reservation was also a big help to the business owner and staff

and provided convenience for the customers to place an order anytime anywhere they want.

And last, the daily report of the point of sale could now be monitored and calculated

automatically. The owner was the administrator and has the highest accessibility to the

system.

Enhancements

The proposed Web-based Inventory, Items Reservation and Point of Sale (POS)

System with Mobile Application have an additional feature of the Remote Log-in for the

administrator and mobile application for the customer. The system could now be accessed

through the Internet by the administrator even at home. It helps him to check or view the

daily sales report without going to the business establishment personally.

The username and password were also provided in the system for security measures.

The web-based system has an integrated that makes it more immune from threats such as

SQL injections, phishing, hacking, etc.

Mobile Application

The researchers also incorporated the development of a mobile application in the

study. Using mobile phones, the administrator could access the inventory, the information of

the item in the reservation, and also the daily records of point of sale.

The mobile application is capable of adding, editing, or deleting of items from the

web-based system. It would lessen the work of the staff in charge of making inventory

reports.

Method

The researchers used the comparative method as the research design methodology

that was used to explore the process and technique of using a pre-test and post-test design

(Kowalczyk, 2015). The outputs from the pre-test and post-test were compared and

analyzed. There were various instruments utilized to compare the results. The primary data

was gathered from the initial distribution when the Inventory, Items Reservation and Point of

Sale (POS) system was still in manual-based system. The primary data was gathered from

the initial distribution when the Inventory, Items Reservation and Point of Sale (POS) system

was in still in manual-based system in November 2016. The secondary data was gathered

from the final distribution when the POS system was already using a web-based system in

January 2017. The researchers used the Frequency Distribution Method to sum up the

gathered data. The results of the Frequency Distribution from initial distribution were

compared to the results of the final distribution.

Subjects of the Study

The respondents for the pretest and post test surveys were the thirty (30) customers

and seven (7) end-users. The researchers used the Purposive Random Sampling Design.

Table 1 shows the number of respondents who answered the survey forms for the

pre-test and post-test surveys.

Research Instruments

The researchers used survey questionnaires, observations, and interviews. These

instruments were very helpful in facilitating effective gathering of data from different

sources.

Part 1 of the questionnaire surveyed the comparison between manual-based and web-

based inventory, items reservation and point of sale (POS) systems of the Francis

Merchandise regarding the general concerns. The main respondents of this questionnaire’s

part were the end-users of the system.

Part 2 of the questionnaire surveyed the intuition of the respondents with regards to

the use of system according to its accuracy, accessibility, and speed. The main respondents

of this questionnaire’s part were the customers of the business establishment.

A Likert Scale was also utilized in this research. According to (Gee, 2016), “a Likert

Scale is one of the most widely used tools in researching popular opinion. They use

psychometric testing to measure beliefs, attitudes and opinion. The question use statements

and a respondent then indicate how much they agree or disagree with that statement. Usually,

a scale of 0-10 is provided with Likert Scale questions, although shorter scales may also be

possible. The main advantage of Likert Scale questions is that they use a universal method of

collecting data, which means it is easy to understand them. Working with quantitative data, it

is easy to draw conclusions, reports, results and graphs from the responses. Furthermore,

because Likert Scale questions use a scale people are not forced to express an either-or

opinion, rather should they so choose. Once all responses have been received, it is very easy

to analyze them. ”

Table 2

Likert Scale

2 1.80 – 2.59 Satisfied
3 2.60 – 3.39 Undecided
4 3.40 – 4.19 Dissatisfied
5 4.20 – 5.00 Strongly Dissatisfied

The researchers used the Observational Method of research that concerns the planned

watching, recording, and analysis of observed behavior of the respondents as it occurs in a

natural setting.

Another instrument used was an interview to substantiate the result of the research.

The researchers interviewed people who were directly involved in the study.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers secured permission from the administrators to conduct the research.

Also, they sent letters to them about the planned survey. The data was gathered through

personal distribution of questionnaires and were administered to the respondents to get the

desired information from them. Interviews were utilized to substantiate the study. The

gathered results were tabulated and prepared for statistical treatments.

Architectural Design

The research used different design tools that helped the researchers in designing and

developing the proposed system. These tools were used in determining the main flow of the

data from input, to process, and then in producing accurate and reliable output.

The following were the different architectural designs used by the system that aided

the researchers in developing the proposed system.

The Data Flow Diagram or DFD (see Appendix B) was used to illustrate how data

was processed by a system in terms of inputs and outputs. It also described how the system

transformed information. It defined how information was processed, stored, and identified

on how the information flows through the processes.

Furthermore, it was used in the web-based system to illustrate how the first process in

the inventory, items reservation and point of sale (POS) system was commenced. It would

then show how the data flowed from one entity to another and how it was being processed

from input to output.

The Entity Relationship Diagram or ERD (see Appendix C) was a specialized graphic

representation that illustrated the relationships between entities in a database. It often used

symbols to represent three different types of information. Boxes were commonly used to

represent entities. Diamonds were normally used to represent relationships and ovals were

used to represent attributes.

Furthermore, it illustrated the logical structure of the database used in a web-based

inventory, items reservation and point of sale (POS) system. Entities were the things or

people involved in the inventory, items reservation and point of sale (POS) system.

Attributes were the characteristics of entities and they were connected using a relationship

symbols.

The System’s Flowchart (see Appendix D) was a valuable presentation aid because it

showed how the system’s major components fitted together and interacted. In effect, it

served as a system roadmap. During the information gathering stage, a system flowchart was

an excellent tool for summarizing a great deal of technical information about the existing

system.

Furthermore, the web-based inventory, items reservation and point of sale (POS)

system used it in planning and as a project management aids. It guided the researchers to

identify discrete units of work. It also helped them to break the system into manageable and

easy to understand subsystems.

The Database Structure (see Appendix E) was a collection of descriptions of data

objects or items in a data model. It was a first step in analyzing a system of objects with

which users interact was to identify each object and its relationship to other objects.

Furthermore, the researchers used it to recognize what were the variable naming

conventions and appropriate data types used in the database. It showed the framework of

data in tables in the database. It was consulted by the researchers to understand where a data

item fitted in the structure, what values it may contain, and basically what the data item

means by referring to its description.

Design and Implementation

The researchers used the Waterfall Model software engineering principle in designing

the system through utilization of various instrument. The first step was to know how the

Waterfall Model works and how it could help the researchers in the development of the

proposed web-based inventory, items reservation, and point of sale (POS) system with

mobile application. The waterfall model was a step by step process of doing something or

doing a project. They chose this model as their guide in developing a proposed web-based

system to easily know what were the steps in the developments of the proposed web-based

system. This helped them to identify what were the problems from using the manual-based

system that could be eliminated in the proposed system.

The Francis Merchandise used the Waterfall Model first to analyze the processes of

generating their daily sales report and the function of their manual-based system so they

could see what were the requirements and specification in the development of the web-based.

After they gathered all the information using a pre-test survey from the requirements

and specification, they proceeded in the design of the proposed web-based system and

constructed it according to the requirements of the end-users.

After the designing of the proposed web-based system, they proceeded to the

implementation of the system in the Francis Merchandise. Then, to the testing and integration

of the proposed web-based system so that they could see the functions of the system and

were the things that need to be improved in the proposed web-based system using the post-

test survey.

Discussion

This part of the research presents the summary of the study and its significant

findings. The conclusions made in the light of the research output and the recommendations

based on the conclusion drawn were also herein included.

The world is now relying on computer technology or in technology. The advantages

of computer technology reach out many people in the world. In this research, the

researchers developed a Web-based Inventory, Items Reservation, and Point of Sale (POS)

System with Mobile Application helping the Francis Merchandise to reach its goals in terms

of accuracy, productivity, security, accessibility, and availability. Developing a Web-based

Inventory, Items Reservation, and Point of Sale (POS) System with Mobile Application

provided front-end and back-end interfaces both for end-users and customers. It provides

portal to help the end-users to monitor their transactions and also to help the customers to

reserve items they needed. The researcher used interviews, survey forms, and observations

to make our web-based system to satisfy the needs of our end-users and customers.

Table 3 shows the results of comparison of end-users between pre-test and post-test

of current and proposed web-based inventory, items reservation and point of sale (POS)

systems. The pre-test shows a weighted mean of 4.56 rated as “Dissatisfied”, meaning the

bulk number of end-users were not satisfied with the manual-based system. The end-users

strongly disagreed with the manual-based system because it was ineffective and inefficient to

use, not easy to implement, not secured, and not automated.

In the post-test or evaluation of the proposed web-based inventory, items reservation

and point of sale (POS) systems, the end-users were asked to test the system and evaluated it

after the system has been used. The proposed system gained a total of weighted mean of

1.38 and rated as “Strongly Satisfied” because the system satisfied the requirements needed

by the end-users.

Table 4 shows the accuracy of the current system and the proposed system which

garnered a total weighted mean of 4.40 and 1.38 respectively. Since the manual-based

system did not use a web-based inventory, items reservation and point of sale (POS) systems

and mobile application, majority of the respondents rated it “Dissatisfied” and they were not

satisfied with the manual-based system because the computation of fees was not surely

correct, data redundancy was not eliminated and the reports were not totally correct and not

updated. With regards to the proposed system, the respondents rated it “Strongly Satisfied”

because they believed that the records in the proposed web-based system were accurate

because the customer’s information, total amount of payment were also consistent and

updated, no error in the item code and description, and data redundancy was eliminated.

Table 5 shows the accessibility comparison of the manual-based system and the

proposed system. The respondents rated the current system with 4.55 wherein they

“Dissatisfied” in providing accessibility of data. Output in the manual-based system was not

easily access, no mobile application was usable, and the data was not easy to update. With

regards to the proposed system, the respondents rated it with the mean result of 1.48 wherein

they “Strongly Satisfied” because they believed that the records in the proposed web-based

system were accessible. Data in the proposed web-based inventory, items reservation and

point of sale (POS) systems was easy to update, outputs were achievable, data could be

accessed easily and mobile application was usable.

Table 6 shows the speed comparison of the manual-based system and the proposed

system. The respondents rated the manual-based system with 4.55 wherein they rated

“Dissatisfied” because workloads were not done on time, slow reservation processing and

unnecessary processes were not eliminated. With regards to the proposed system, the

respondents rated it “Strongly Satisfied” with a mean rated of 1.43 because they believed that

the transactions in the inventory, items reservation and point of sale (POS) system in the

proposed web-based system were easy and fast because the processing of reservation was

fast, workloads were done on time and unnecessary processes were eliminated.

Based on the comparison done by the researchers on the pre and post tests for end-

users, the proposed system was found more effective and efficient than using the manual-

based process. The weighted mean of pre-test is 4.56 and rated “Dissatisfied” while the post-

test garnered a weighted mean of 1.38 and rated “Strongly Satisfied”.

Also the researchers made a comparison between the current and proposed system in

terms of accuracy, availability, and speed shown in the table on the next page.

Table 7

Summary of the respondent’s evaluation (Manual-based System and Proposed System)

Criteria Current System Proposed System

Accuracy 4.40 1.38
Availability 4.55 1.48
Speed 4.55 1.43

Table 7 shows that the proposed system was more accurate, available, and faster

compare to the manual-based system. The majority of the respondents were in favor of

implementation of the proposed Web-Based Inventory, Items Reservation, and Point of Sale

(POS) System with Mobile application thereby eliminating the laborious and prone to error

manual-based system.

The mobile application package could only be installed and run on mobile devices

with Android operating system. It provided two different user interfaces such as for personal

computer and for mobile devices.

In the light of the findings, the following conclusions were drawn:

1. Majority of the end-users dissatisfied on the utilization of manual-based inventory,

items reservation, and point of sale (POS) system. They strongly satisfied in the

proposed web-based system because it was effective and efficient to implement a

web-based inventory, items reservation, and point of sale system with mobile

application.

2. All of the respondents believed that the manual-based process was inaccurate. On the

other hand, the proposed system was more accurate than the manual-based process.

3. All of the respondents dissatisfied on the availability of data in manual-based process

whereas majority of them were satisfied with the proposed system because data was

available, easy to update, and accessible.

4. All of the respondents dissatisfied on the fast inventory, items reservation, and point

of sale (POS) process in manual-based system. Majority of the respondents was

satisfied that the proposed system because it was faster and eliminated queues and

process redundancy.

5. Based on the comparison done by the researchers on the pre-test and post-test for the

end-user, the proposed system was found more effective and efficient than using the

manual-based process.

6. The majority of the respondents were in favor of the implementation of the proposed

web-based inventory, items reservation, and point of sale (POS) system with mobile

application thereby eliminating the laborious and prone to error manual-based system.

In relation to the findings, the following recommendations were presented for

consideration:

1. That the end-user should acquire an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) to secure

data from power interruption.

2. That the researchers should facilitate training for the end-users.

3. That the merchandise should acquire high-end computers and other equipment

pertinent to the web-based inventory, items reservation, and point of sale (POS)

system for faster performance.

4. That the end- user should maintain regular back-ups of the database for data security.

5. That a similar study or a deeper research in this research should be undertaken to

ensure a more focused concern on the web-based inventory, items reservation, and

point of sale system and mobile application of the Francis Merchandise.
