Medicinal Plants

Deffinition:The plants with chemical constituents which can cure
various dieases or boost immunity they are called Medicinal
Plants
Quantity :Almost 15% of total flora species of India can be use as
medicinal plants(source:The Ministry of Environment, Forest and
Climate Change (MoEFCC) Government Of Indis)

Use:Acoording to WHO 70% of human population use medicinal
plants and in India from ainceant ages use of medicinal plants
are used as Ayurveda .
Different Types of Immune cells
Immunity

Types: Two types I)Humoral immunity II)Cellular Immunity

Cell-mediated Immunity:Non specific Imuunity .
Macrophages, T cell take part in this

Humoral Immunity:Specific Imuunity which act aganist only
specific antigen.Go through three steps i)B cell activation
II)B cell proliferation III) Antibody-antigen reaction
Immunomodulators

These are biological or synthetic substances that can stimulate, suppress

or modulate any aspect of the immune system including both adaptive
and innate arms of the immune system.
Types
I)Immunoadjuvants
II)Immunostimulants
III)Immunosuprssants
How Immunomodulators boost immunity
I)Helps in the translocation of antigens to the lymph nodes where they can be
recognized by T cells. This will ultimately lead to greater T cell activity.

II) Helps to increase the capacity to cause local reactions at the injection site (during
vaccination), inducing greater release of danger signals by chemokine releasing

III )Induces the release of inflammatory cytokines which helps to not only recruit
B and T cells at sites of infection but also to increase transcriptional events
leading to a net increase of immune cells as a whole.

IV)Increases the innate immune response to antigen by interacting with pattern

recognition receptors (PRRs) on or within accessory cells.
Class of Chemical Constituents which act as
immunomodulators

I)Glycosides
II)Flavonoids
III)Coumarins
IV)Saponins
V)Alkaloids
Vi)Thiosulfinates
VII)Vitamins
VIII)Terpenoids
IX)Polysaccharides
X)Essential oils

Future and current Scenario

Many Plant based medicines are available and
many are under clinical trial.

Chemical constituents of plants are used for In Silico
screening for Drug Discovery of Covid-19

In this time of pandemic Our Immune system should
be at its best so for this Immunomodulators of
Plants play a vital role
Thank You
