AUGMENTED AND VIRTUAL REALITY PRODUCT TYPES IN INDIA

 Head-mounted displays are small display devices having projection technology, and are
usually integrated into eyeglasses or mounted on helmets. Head-mounted display uses
both augmented reality and virtual reality technology, such as virtual reality head-
mounted displays for gaming, or entertainment purpose and augmented reality head-
mounted display during wars in defense sector.

Patil, along with three of his co-founders, Pankaj Raut, Abhishek Tomar, and Gaurav
Godbole, created AjnaLens, which the startup claims is the "first augmented reality headset of
its kind from an India-based company" and one that "matches the widest field of view of any
head-mounted display available today.

The founders are waiting for their registered patents by March-end before they reveal
what they have been working on since November 2014 in their dormitory at IIT Bombay.

AJNALENS
An augmented reality headset, AjnaLens is simply a wearable computer which does not
display its images on a screen, but superimposes a computer generated 3D image on the user's
view of the real world.

"The best part of AjnaLens is that you can interact and simulate with holograms,
superimpose them on real life objects, put annotations on it, and anyone from anywhere in the
world can remotely access the holograms simultaneously," explains Patil. The headset supports
voice, gesture, and gaze inputs which allow the users to keep their hands free while using the
product. The current version of the product has an external computing source which is
connected with a wire and can be fitted in a pocket. Patil says the company is working on
releasing a completely wireless version next year.

What it can do?

Steering clear of the B2C market, Dimension NXG has set its eyes on the enterprises for
the adoption of its headsets. Microsoft is also testing out its HoloLens to define its relevance for
industries.

 Head-Up Display (HUD): Head-up displays are the transparent display that represents
the information data onto a windshield of an aircraft, car, etc., so as to allow pilots,
drivers, etc., to use the information without looking down. Head-up display uses
augmented reality technology, and is used in various applications such as military
aircrafts, commercial aircrafts, cars, etc.
 Smart Glass: Smart glasses are like wearable computer, which adds information to what
the wearer sees. These are used to provide computer generated data for the user view.
Smart glasses uses augmented reality technology for information display.
 Handheld Device Applications: Handheld device applications are augmented reality
applications installed on smartphones, tablet PCs, etc. It can be defined as integration
of augmented reality technology into smartphone, so as to deliver reality-based
services and functions.

INDIAN VIRTUAL REALITY MARKET

In 2013, the Indian VR market generated funds worth INR 7.04 Bn, while in 2017 the
market had generated funds worth INR 122.44 Bn, thus rising at a compound annual growth
rate (CAGR) of 104.24% for that period.
The adoption of virtual reality (VR) in industries like automotive, medical, aerospace and
defense, gaming, retail, education, and entertainment are being driven by its benefits in
training, conferencing, and communication. In India, the rate of adoption of innovative VR
applications such as a head-up display and head-mounted display is rising, leading to
generation of considerable funding.
The Indian government has initiated several development programs, which are
supporting the VR market. Also, organizations like IDG Ventures India (IDGVI) and Axilor
Ventures are participating in the development of the VR market in India with the help of
investments through Frontier Tech Innovators Program. As a result, various kinds of VR
equipment have become easily accessible and affordable for Indians, thus driving the growth of
the market.
VR has recently found extensive usage in India in the fields of military,
telecommunications, entertainment, and medicine for training, developing easy mobile
application, designing games, and enabling easy surgery simulation, phobia treatment, and
robotic surgery. Increasing use of VR applications in different industries is driving growth of the
market across India.
