Dumplin doesn’t want to win the Pageant. Dumplin sees her participation in the Pageant as a protest
against stereotypes. But Millie has wanted to participate in that Pageant since she was eight years old.

Possible answer: Millie wants to enter the Pageant as a self-achievement. From Millie's point of view it's
like a dream come true. Lucy probably felt the same when she was young, but she didn't have the
courage to do it.
