To determine if impact testing is required for a material, one should first look up the material's curve in UCS 66 to find the Charpy V-notch impact test curve name and thickness. Then check table MDMT for the minimum design metal temperature based on the curve name and thickness. Impact testing is not needed if the operating temperature is higher than this table temperature. Otherwise, impact testing is required following the steps and thresholds outlined in UCS 66, UG 20, and UCS 68 C.

2) Find MDMT from the table using the curve name & thickness 3) Then if your operating temp is more than this table tem , you do not need impact testing 4) If your operating temp is less than these table temperature , you need impact testing . then go to UG 20 5) If it is curve A, impact testing is not needed for thk equal to and lower than 0.5 inch 6) If it is curve B,C,& D , impact testing is not needed if the thk is equal to & lower than 1 inch . But The temp should not be lower than – 29 Deg F for 5 & 6 to be applicable 7) If PWHT is done not as the code requirement, go to Sec UCS 68 C, to take advantage of further reduction of 30 Deg F 8) Then If the reduction ratio is given, use the corresponding reduction temp from the Graph UCS 66. But lowest you can go down is -55 DEG F 9) If reduction ratio is less than 0.35 , you can go down to – 155 DEG F
