TUTORIAL TASK 1 (INDIVIDUAL) INCLUSIVE EDUCATION

Impairment: Slow learner

Disability:

- Poor judgement, prefers company of younger children


- Shows proficiency with certain tasks rather than in subject areas
- Easily frustrated and shows aggression
- Difficulty in following simple orders; however follows the rest of the group.

How to help:

- For teachers, teachers should sit down with these students and spend extra time and
gives them extra help to cope with the subject (Alex Mushumba, Head Teacher or
Martyrs Secondary Schools). Understand pupils problems even at personal levels.
- Be close to students
- Parents should not be ashamed of it. Slow things down for their child and help them
throughout the process
- Provide quiet work/study area. Distractions are detrimental
- Keep assignments and home works session short. (short attention span).

Impairment: Physically impaired (leg)

Disability:

- Difficulty in walking around


- cannot participate in any kind of extracurricular activities involving movement.
- disrupts self esteem

How to help:

- Provide proper facilities in schools and public places


- Encourage to choose activities that do not require a lot of movement, i.e. chess.
- Give words of encouragement and never discriminate from any kind of activity
- Do a corrective surgery (if possible)
