What makes a view of a big beautiful cloudy sky hovering over the landscape seem like the horizon is so far in
the distance? For the artist to capture this feeling in their artwork, so that people sense it, there are some
principles to keep in mind.

Clouds have Form


Always remember that clouds have form. Clouds vary greatly in shape but they all have one thing in common
and that's a top, bottom and four sides. An object with a structure as such can be rendered with perspectives.
There's two ways we'll look at to help us in painting and drawing clouds and that's by using blocks and
ellipses.

Perspective drawing can help us to render a realistic cloudy sky scene or background. We're fimiliar with
drawing blocks in perspective drawing representing houses a barn or maybe many large blocks representing
city buildings for a landscape or cityscape art composition. It's using this same artist technique except that

we're placing the blocks in the sky of our artwork for clouds instead of buildings.
