KNITTED MEASUREMENTS
12 x 12"/30.5 x 30.5cm
MATERIALS
• 1 - 3.5 oz/100 g ball (approx. 220 yds/200 m) of Cascade Yarns® 220
Superwash® Merino (100% superwash merino wool) in Color B (#87
North Sea)
• One pair size 7 (4.5mm) needles, OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
• Stitch markers
• Stitch holders or safety pins
• Cable needle (cn)
GAUGE
20 sts and 28 rows = 4"/10cm over Stockinette st using size 7 (4.5mm)
needles.
TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
STITCH GLOSSARY
Dec 7 to 1 (tip of the Arch) Slip 1 st, place 2nd st on st holder and hold to
front, slip 3rd st, knit center st then slip back to LH needle, pass 5th st over
center st and off LH needle, slip center st back to RH needle, pass 3rd st
over center st and off RH needle, place 6th st on st holder and hold to front,
slip center st back to LH needle, pass 7th st over and off LH needle, slip
center st back to RH needle, pass first st over center st and off RH needle.
Place 6th st back on LH needle, slip center st back to LH needle, pass 6th st
over center st and off LH needle. Place 2nd st back on RH needle, slip cen-
ter st back to RH needle, pass 2nd st over center st and off RH needle—1 st
remains.
k Knit.
k1 tbl Knit 1 through back loop.
k2tog Knit two stitches together—1 stitch decreased.
k3tog Knit 3 stitches together in front loops as one stitch—2 stitches
decreased.
k4tog Knit 4 stitches together in front loops as one stitch—3 stitches
decreased.
LH Left hand.
Make 4 (M4) Work (k1, yo, k1, p1) into next stitch—3 stitches increased.
M1R Insert LH needle from back to front under the strand between last
stitch worked and next stitch on LH needle. Knit into the front loop to twist
the stitch—1 stitch increased.
M1L Insert LH needle from front to back under the strand between last
st worked and next st on LH needle. K into the back loop to twist the
stitch—1 stitch increased.
PM1R Insert needle from back to front under the strand between the last st
worked and the next st on the LH needle. Purl into the front loop—1 stitch
increased.
PM1L Insert needle from front to back under the strand between the last st
worked and the next st on the LH needle. Purl into the back loop—1 stitch
increased.
p Purl.
pm Place marker.
RH Right hand.
RS Right side.
S2KP Slip next 2 sts as if to k2tog, k1, pass the 2 slipped sts over the k1—2
sts decreased.
sm Slip marker.
ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip the next two stitches knitwise one at a time, to
RH needle. Insert tip of LH needle into fronts of these stitches, from left to
right and knit them together—1 stitch decreased.
sssk (slip, slip, slip, knit) Slip the next three stitches knitwise one at a
time, to RH needle. Insert tip of LH needle into fronts of these stitches,
from left to right and knit them together—2 stitches decreased.

yo Yarn over—1 stitch increased.

NOTES
• Square may be knit from written text or chart.
• On RS rows, slip 1 purlwise with yarn in front, work to last stitch, p1.
• On WS rows, slip 1 knitwise with yarn in back, work to last stitch, k1 tbl.
• "No stitch" is a placeholder in the chart, marking a stitch that has been
decreased out of, or has yet to be increased into the pattern. This method
of charting helps to keep the sts lined up and easier to read. Just skip the
no stitch square(s) and work the next charted st.

Wei Wilkins

I came from South-East coast of China. My mother taught me to knit when I was around 5. It was considered as a self-sufficient skill. My childhood wish
was to became an architect. The only explanation for not being accepted by the engineering school was my family’s lack of communist party connections—
even though my scores were very good.

I became a reluctant high school teacher. Luckily, some of my colleagues from Shanghai were very good knitters. We didn’t have knitting patterns from
books or magazines to follow, but a sewing background helped me to make patterns. Soon, I started to gain a reputation for innovative and stylish designs
for daily-wear.

In the middle of 1990s, I moved and settled in TX. Thanks to VK, I had my first design publication in the VK Holiday 2012. It opened a new horizon for me.
Now, I guess that I like to do something more creative and constructive, maybe have something to do with my early life’s experience…
