COURSE OUTLINE LECTURE SCHEDULE-48 HOURS
Purpose of the Course: Is to enable learners acquire knowledge of various probability and statistical
concepts.
Course Description
Random variables; discrete and continuous, probability functions of random variables, Expectations and
Variance; moments and moment generating functions. Probability distributions and distribution
functions; Bernoulli, Binomial Poisson, Normal Exponential, Hypergeometric, Beta, Gamma, etc.

4-6 Moments and moment generating functions
Raw vs central moments
Factorial moments
Moment generating functions

7-9 Probability distributions and distribution functions


Discrete distributions:
 Bernoulli distribution
 Binomial distribution
 Negative binomial distribution
 Geometric and Hyper geometric distribution
 Poisson distribution
