ALTOSONIC IV
Ultrasonic gas flowmeter for
custody transfer Highlights
Highly practical features of the ALTOSONIC IV are its 3D installation length and dual output
pulses, which makes it compatible to other technologies, like turbine meters and very suitable
for retrofitting.
The ultrasonic gas meter is the first meter of its kind that can operate under high pressure and
ambient pressure. As a result, it can be calibrated with ambient air, thereby cutting calibration
costs by up to 90 %.
Thanks to its extremely low power consumption, the ALTOSONIC IV ultrasonic gas flow meter can
even be operated with solar energy. This means that for the first time ultrasonic gas meters can
be used in gas exploration fields. This is a groundbreaking innovation.
Fields of Applications
¦ Custody transfer, fiscal metering
¦ Company internal billing
¦ Check metering
¦ Production, distribution and storage of natural gas

ALTOSONIC IV Menue-driven parameter and diagnostics software
Menu-driven parameter and diagnostic software is
provided as with the ALTOSONIC IV.
The software program provides access to all system
parameters, displays comprehensive diagnostics, and
can be used as a convenient tool for the logging of
data. Self diagnostics provides reliability on whether
the measurements are within specifications
Functions
¦ Logging data and parameter logs
¦ System diagnostics and troubleshooting
¦ Graphical representation of the received signal
¦ Customer-specific parameters
Measuring Principle
ALTOSONIC IV operates just like all KROHNE
ultrasonic flowmeters, by the transit-time differential
method. This measuring principle is based on a simple
physical principle. Imagine two canoes crossing a river
diagonally, one with the flow and one against the flow. Path 1
Naturally the canoe that is travelling with the flow will
to 4
reach the opposite side sooner that the canoe that is
travelling upstream. Acoustic signals behave in a
comparable way.
