Knowledge Questions: How do we develop our intuition? What are its limitations?

Do Now: The last reading we did described intuition as a reflex that we develop over
time based on our experience.

What do you think are some every day examples where your intuition might be of use to
you?
Deciding who to be friends with. How you react when you meet people.

2. The Implicit Association Test (IAT)

Use your laptop:


Search for Implicit Association Test and click on the link that starts with
implicit.harvard.edu

Click on “I wish to proceed”

Choose the test titled, “Race IAT”

Read the instructions and take that test. Once done, answer the questions below.

• What result did the test give you?

Responses suggested no automatic preference between African Americans and European


Americans.

• What do you think was the meaning of that test for you personally?

To know if you are racist or not.

• Did the Implicit association test (IAT) you took prove that you are or are not
“racist”? Explain.

It proved that I do not distinguish between black and white. I think they are all equal and
no body should be put down or put up just because of their colour which is not under
their control.

• What do you think you had the preferences that you had? If intuition is a trained
reflex, where do you think your intuitive response comes from?

Your reflex. As in the test they told you to differentiate as quickly as possible this will
make you subconscious mind to react and that data is decode as your result.

• How do you think your “implicit preferences” about race might manifest
themselves in your real life?

The implicit-association test is a measure within social psychology designed to


detect the strength of a person's subconscious association between mental
representations of objects in memory.
