Job Descriptions

Duties for each of the positions may be defined by you, to a great extent. For example, one
person may serve as both administrator and director, and sometimes even part – time classroom
teacher.

Administrator

Qualifications:
 At least 21 years of age
 High school diploma or GED
 One year’s experience as a manager or satisfactorily completed 1 DCF approved course
in business or program administration
 One year’s experience as a center director or childcare teacher in a licensed center or
kindergarten or have satisfactorily completed 1 course in early childhood education or its
equivalent
 Possess a certificate from The Registry, verifying training requirements have been met
 The licensee will act as the administrator
Duties
 Implement all state and center policies
 Report to DCF all necessary information required for licensing
 Day to day operations
 Center finances
 Hire/orient/evaluate staff; Conduct criminal background checks

Center Director

Qualifications
 At least 21 years of age
 High school diploma or GED
 Meet training and experience requirements in one of the DCF approved combinations as
stated in the licensing manual
 Possess a certificate from The Registry, verifying training requirements have been met
Duties
 Day to day operations
 Implement all state and center policies
 Assist the administrator with planning, managing, marketing, and directing
 Teach and monitor children when needed
 Maintain staff and children files
 Assist administrator in hiring and orienting new classroom staff

Child Care Teacher

Qualifications
 At least 18 years of age
 High school diploma or GED
 Meet training and experience requirements in one of the combinations approved by DCF
as stated in the licensing manual
 Completed a course in the care of infants and toddlers, if applicable
 Possess a certificate from The Registry, verifying training requirements have been met
Duties
 Provide a warm, safe, caring environment that is kept orderly, clean, and appealing and
allows a child to explore and grow
 Greet each child in a friendly manner; interact with each child and encourage
involvement
 Plan, prepare, and implement daily activities that relate to the curriculum
 Provide overall supervision of toileting and bathroom time
 Maintain daily attendance record and medical logbook
 Keep a “portfolio” of each child’s progress which includes photographs, samples of
artwork, writing, etc.
 Maintain good communication with parents daily using notes and verbal communication
 Ensure confidentiality of privileged information
 Adhere to center policies and procedures and to licensing rules
 Work all days and hours assigned; perform all assigned tasks and responsibilities
 Perform any additional program duties as assigned by the director or administrator
according to center needs
 Attend all scheduled staff meetings

Assistant Child Care Teacher

Qualifications
 At least 18 years of age
 Satisfactorily completed 1 DCF approved course, or be enrolled in training within 6
months after assuming the position
Duties
 Provide support for the childcare teacher
 Constantly monitor and supervise the children
 Assist the childcare teacher in maintaining a safe and positive environment
 Alert the childcare teacher to emergencies
 Adhere to center policies and procedures and to licensing rules
 Perform any additional program duties as assigned by the director or administrator
according to center needs
 Ensure confidentiality of privileged information

Cook

Qualifications
 Must be at least 18 years of age
 4 hours of orientation and training each year on proper food handling, kitchen sanitation,
and nutrition
Duties
 Prepare menus
 Prepare meals and snacks
 Maintain sanitary conditions in the kitchen
 Wash and store dishes
