Dear 4th Grader and Family,

Congratulations...you made it! Welcome to 4th grade and get ready to make your mark! I hope
you are as excited as I am to get this new school year started. I am thrilled to be your teacher
and look forward to a fun and productive year together.
I want to share a few things about myself. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature
from Loyola Marymount University. I have taught Pre-K, K, and second grade and truly love
coming to work every day. Teaching has forever been my heart, and I am passionate for the
education of our youth. I value your input, and I thank you in advance for your support during
this exciting school year.
Your child’s grades will be based on tests, projects, homework and seatwork. Tests and projects
count for 60%, while homework, participation and seatwork count for 40%. Should your child
have an unsatisfactory test grade (D or F), the test must be corrected and signed by a parent and
returned the following school day.
Homework is assigned every day except Friday. Please be sure that your child’s homework is
NEAT and COMPLETE. After you have checked over your child’s work, I ask that you read and
then sign their agenda book. If the agenda hasn’t been signed by a parent (no initials, please!),
the child will be given an incomplete homework slip. It is the child’s responsibility to have their
parent sign their agenda book. Homework that is given is a review of what has been taught in
class. Please take a few minutes each night to check your child’s progress. If an assignment is
not completed, the student will have one additional day to turn it in to receive partial credit. If the
assignment is 2 or more days late, no credit will be given.
If your child is absent, a list of assignments and books will be placed upon their desk. If your
child is absent one day, they will have one day to make it up, if they are absent for 2 days, they
will have 2 days to make it up, etc. When your child returns to school, he/she should have a note
for me explaining their absence. Missed tests will be given the day of their return (unless other
arrangements have been made in advance).
Student papers will be sent home every other week. Please use this time to review your child’s
work. If an assignment is missing or your child has received an unsatisfactory test grade, he/she
has 1 school day to complete and/or correct the paper.

Behavior Policy
The following is a list of provisional rules for our classroom for the next school year. I would
greatly appreciate if you would take some time to go through these rules with your child before
he/she returns to school. I will be in contact again about this matter during the first weeks of term
with a set of the finalized rules agreed between the class and myself.

Class Rules
1. Follow directions the first time they are given.
2. Listen when someone is speaking.
3. Have all appropriate materials and supplies at your table and be seated when the bell rings.
4. Respect the people, equipment, and furnishings of the room.
5. Participate in class activities.

Consequences
 Verbal Warning by Teacher
 10 Minutes of Recess
 Student/Teacher Conference
 Parent Phone Call
 Student/Parent/ Teacher Conference (as needed)
 Discipline Referral

Positive reinforcement will be given in the form of a letter from the teacher in the agenda, verbal
praise, certificate, etc. Your child’s agenda book will serve as our main communication system
for any concerns, questions, behavior issues and positive notes.
PLEASE ensure that your child arrives to school on time. It sets the tone for the entire day. If
your child is tardy, he/she will need to go to the office for a tardy slip before being admitted to
class. If the tardiness is excessive, the parent will be notified.
I want to thank you in advance for all your support. Together we will continue to work toward
success and high student achievement. I am very excited about the year ahead and look forward
to having the privilege of teaching your child!

Sincerely,

Ms. Leibscher
