DISCUSSION RESPONSE 2

Response to Venkata Suresh Reddy Kikkuru.

Hello Reddy.
I agree with you that, Access Control List (ACL) is one of the essential components of

network security as its network traffic can filter and regulate both incoming and outgoing traffic.

It is true that with defined rules, ACL can tell what to be forwarded or blocked within the

interface of the router. Indeed, ACL is stateless as it can only block, allow, or even restrict

incoming packets. ACL is set in such a way that any packet flowing through it is screened and

then compared to ACL set standards, if they met the criteria they are allowing to flow in, but if

not, the packets are blocked.

As for the differences between ACL and firewalls, I can also add that ACL can be put

into several uses as opposed to firewalls that have only one application- that is, examining traffic

and either blocking or allowing the traffic to flow (Eddusaver, 2019).

DISCUSSION RESPONSE 5

Response to Priyanka Reddy Karumuri.

Hi Karumuri.
I conquer with you that, Access Control List can be put into several uses such as

processing traffic to an interface and data distribution for processing routing updates. I support

your ideas that ACL an also be used in policy-based routing objectives besides securing data

flow into or out of the network system (Steed, 2017). It is also imperative to note that ACL relies

on the set principles and rules to ascertain packets that are genuine and meet the set criteria to

flow into the network system.

In my view, the main difference between the Access Control List and firewalls is that

ACL is used to provide a stateless inspection to the network system. In contrast, firewalls are

used to offer stateful inspections on incoming and outgoing traffic within the network system.

I'm in support of your ideas that ACL is multipurpose, unlike firewalls that are put under one use

only.
