WS MOTION 4

PHYSICS 8B – SMPK 6 – Tuesday, 4th August 2020

1. A car was at rest and accelerated 1m/s2 for 5s. The acceleration was constant (not
changing).
a) Determine the speed of the car after 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, and 5s
b) Draw the speed vs time graph of car’s motion (to scale)
c) Determine the distance covered after 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, and 5s
d) Draw the distance vs time graph of car’s motion (to scale)

2. Look at the figure below!

Aretha is cruising at 24.0 m/s down Lake Avenue and through the forest preserve. She
notices a deer jump into the road at a location 40 m in front of her. Aretha first reacts to
the event, then slams on her brakes and decelerates at -8 m/s2. By using calculation, will
the collision happen or not?

3. A mango fell frely from 5m height off the tree. Assume the initial velocity of mango is
zero, and the mango is acclerated by gravitational acceleration (a = g = 10 m/s 2),
determine:
a) the velocity of mango upon impact (when it hit the ground)
b) The time needed bu the mango to hit the ground
