sub-section (1) of section 2 of the Kerala Public Services Act, 1968
(Act 19 of 1968) and in supersession of the Kerala Architectural
Subordinate Service Rules issued under G. 0. (P) No. 337/68lPD, dated
the 7th November, 1968 and published as S.R.O. No. 22169 in the Kerala
Gazette No. 3 dated the 21 st January, 1969 the Government of Kerala
hereby make the following Special Rules for the Kerala Architectural Wing
Subordinate Services in the Kerala State Public Works Department

6. Prohutio~t.-Every person appointed to any of the categories by
promotion shall be, from the date on which hdshe joins duty, on probation
for a period of 6 months on duty within a continuous period of one year.
Probation for direct rectuitslby transfer candidates, shall be two years on
duty within a continuous period of three years.
7. Appoirtting A11thority.-Appointing authority for all categories shall
be the Chief Architect.
8. Strvirrg.-Civil Engineering Diploma and Certificate holders and
others recruited to any of the above four categories as per the Kerala.
Architectural Subordinate Service Rules issued under G.. 0.(P) No. 337168,
shall be given exemption from possessing the qualifications prescribed by
these rules for the post held by them as on the date of commencement
of these rules.

i The Special Rules for the Kerala Architectural Subordinate Service of
1 the State PWD were formulated by the Governnlent o f Kerala in
G 0.(P) No: 337168 dated 7th November 1968, when there was insufficient
number of architecturally qualified hands available in the State to operate
the wing. Therefore the qualifications prescribed for appointment were
more related to Civil Engineering professionals working in various
departments. Now the State is having sufxcient number of architecturally
trained personnel from various institutions for appointment to this Wing.
Further, the introduction of the Architects Act, 1972 by the Government of
India (made applicable to all States and Union Territories), required its
provisions to be built into these rules. Hence the existing rules had to be
revised to effect the same. Accordingly as per G 0.(Ms.) No. 19120111
PWD dated 1-3-2011 one post of Artist, two posts of Modeller, one post
of Tracer and one post o f Blue Printer were abolished. Later,
Government, as per G. 0. (Ms.) No. 801201 lIPWD, dated 30-1 2-201 1,
one post of Artist was retained till the promotion or retirement of the
incumbent now holding the post. whichever is earlier and one post of Blue
Printer is retained till the retirement of the incumbent now holding the
post, treating it as supernumerary. Government have decided to formulate . -

of the State PWD incorporating all the changes made as above and in

consonance with the Architects Act, 1972.
The notification is intended to achieve the above object.
