Resources on Contemporary Diet and Nutrition

1. Food Borne Illnesses: When it comes to nutrition and food. It's important that we
are careful how we prepare our food and how we store our food. If we don't take the
precautionary measures that can sometimes lead to what we call a food borne
illnesses. First website: https://www.cdc.gov/foodborneburden/attribution/attribution-
1998-2008.html The CDC is a great website to get information on food borne illness
because the website goes over how many people are effected by food borne illness in
the United States. The website goes over particular food that can cause food borne
illnesses. I think the CDC website can help promote health in
multicultural population is because I think sometimes in the multicultural
populations they don't get as much access when it comes to their health and
nutrition. Plus, it's always nice because you can give them accurate information
from a reputable source like the CDC.

Second Website: The FDA is another great website: https://www.fda.gov/animal-

veterinary/animal-health-literacy/all-about-bse-mad-cow-disease  because it talks about
mad cow disease. The FDA also makes sure to keep our food safe for us and they
also monitor our food to make sure no other animal parts are going into our food. I
think the FDA website can help promote health in the multicultural population
because they might not know a lot information about the FDA, and this is a great
resource I can refer them to if they have any questions.

Third Website: The Sioux Falls Health Department is another great

website: https://www.siouxfalls.org/health/public-health/compliance-licensure/food-
service/handeling-min-temps because this website talks about how to handle food
safely. It's important to know how to handle food safely because that way we can
help prevent ourselves from getting really sick from a food borne illness. I think The
Sioux Falls Health Department website can help promote health in the
multicultural population because for example if they are wanting to get a job in the
food services this is a website I can direct them since they will need a food handlers
permit and this will help them to study for the food handler's test.

2. The Organic Food Movement: The Organic Vegan Superfoods is a really good

website: https://organicvegansuperfoods.com/the-consumers-guide-to-avoiding-gmo-
foods-and-why-you-should/ because for people who are wanting to stay away from
GMO’s and who want to eat clean food. Nowadays you really don’t know how what
they put in your produce. I think the Organic Vegan Superfoods can help promote
health in the multicultural population because in their culture they don’t always
have the most nutritional food. This would be a great website I could introduce
them to so they can start watching what they eat.

Second Website: is a really good website: -  https://www.eater.com/2017/3/24/15041686/fda-
usda-difference-regulation because this goes over what FDA oversees and what the USDA
oversees. The FDA is in charge of all the meat products that are being produced and they
also make sure that they thoroughly inspect all the meats that will be delivered to grocery
stores. The FDA is in charge of all the dairy products. They make sure it’s safe for
consumers to buy. I think this website can help promote health in the multicultural
population because if I have a career as a health educator,
I know I will be asked these kinds of questions. I think it’s important to know this
information because there are so many websites out there that you want to make sure you
are not misleading your clients.

3. Contemporary Weight Loss Programs: Futures Recovery Healthcare is a really good
website: https://futuresrecoveryhealthcare.com/blog/harmful-effects-diet-pills-
supplements/ because it goes over the harm and side effect diet pills and supplements can
do to your body. This website also talks about how these over-counter weight loss pills can
be very dangerous because you don’t know what ingredients are in these weight loss pills
and plus a lot of them aren’t approved by the FDA so you can’t be really sure what you are
getting, they might have some side effects that could make you sick.
Healthline is a really good website: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/how-to-lose-
weight-as-fast-as-possible  because it talks about it gives you the tools you need to lose
weight and to also help to maintain the weight loss. Because a lot of times people will lose
the weight but have a hard time maintaining it. So that’s why this site is good when it
comes to weight loss. The website also give you tips what you should eat and what food you
should avoid. I think this website can help promote health in the multicultural population
because for example I might have client come to me and their goal is to lose 15 pounds in 6
months. They tell you that they have tried everything, but nothing seems to work. So, I can
refer my client to this to help them lose the weight they would like to lose.
