Introduction

“All Summer in a Day” it is writer by the American Ray Bradbury, first

published in the March 1954. Ray Bradbury’s short story “All Summer in a
Day” is a work of science fiction set in an elementary school on the planet
Venus, where colonists from Earth have established underground settlements
full of long tunnels. In these complexes they lives and raise their children.

Developing

The story is about a class of students on Venus, which in this story is a world
of constant rainstorms, where the sun is only visible for one hours every seven
years. One of the children, Margot, moved to Venus from Earth five years
earlier, and she is the only one who remembers sunshine, since the sunshine
regularly on Earth. When the teacher asks them to write a poem about the sun,
hers is: I think the sun is a flower. That blooms for just one hour. She
describes the sun as “a penny” or like a fire in the store. The other children,
being too young ever to have seen it themselves, do not believer her. William
rallies the other children and they lock her in a closet down a tunnel. As
thesun is about to appear their teacher arrives to take the class outside to enjoy
their two hours of sunshine and astonishment and joy. All forget about
Margot. Suddenly a girl catches a raindrop in her hands. Thunder sounds.
Then the lighting comes, and the children run back inside as the sun
disappears and it starts to pour again. At this point, one of them remembers
Margot, who is still locked in the closet ashamed. They let her out the closet.
Standing frozen embarrassed over what they have done and unable to meet
each other’s glances:

The precious sun has come and gone, and because of their despicable act,
Margot, who loved the sun the most, has missed it.

Conclusion

This fiction story brings an important message, several factors work together
in the story to create the bullying that steals something from Margot that can
never be replaced. First, the children’s teacher is negligent; she not only left
them unsupervised, allowing the children to lock Margot up, but she also let
her own excitement keep her from properly accounting for all children under
her change. Second, one boy starts the teasing Margot and pushing her simply
because she is different.

It is good to understand what is important which is to respect the free

expression of each person. We all have the right to express ourselves freely;
understanding that everyone can be different from us.
