Reference No. NT1/2019/CCA Civil Works

Porous concrete shall not be vibrated but only placed and lightly rammed. Formed surfaces shall
be Class F1 finish. Exposed surfaces of the porous concrete shall be sealed in an approved
manner, such as the use of polyethylene or rendering with sand and cement, before structural
concrete is placed against it.

17.3 Precast Concrete

The Contractor shall investigate the possibility of obtaining and utilizing standard precast
concrete products available in the local market prior to commencement of any such production
on his own.
When producing his own precast concrete components, the units shall be manufactured and
cured in a properly equipped casting yard.
The quality of materials used in the manufacture of precast concrete units shall conform to the
applicable requirements contained in this Specification.
Details of the design of the concrete components, together with the concrete mixes and test
results shall be approved by the Engineer.
Care shall be taken during storage, hoisting, and handling of precast units to prevent cracking or
damage. Any units that are damaged by improper storing or handling shall be replaced by the
Contractor.

17.4 Pre-Stressed Concrete

17.4.1 General
Pre-Stressed concrete as referred to in this Section includes both the pre-tensioning and the post-
tensioning methods.
Prestressing in concrete works may be applied to following structures:
a) Trunnion girders and anchorages for spillway gates. This work shall be carried out at
the Site after raising the structure
b) Bridge beams. These units shall be manufactured in a workshop by the Contractor, or
by an approved commercial manufacturer under a sub-contract.
The Contractor or manufacturer shall propose and provide all equipment necessary for
construction and pre-stressing.
Pre-stressing shall be done with approved jacking equipment. Hydraulic jacks shall be equipped
with accurate pressure gauges. The combination of jack and gauge shall be calibrated and a
graph or table showing the calibration shall be furnished to the Engineer. Should other types of
jacks be used, calibrated proving rings or other devices shall be furnished so that the jacking
forces may be known.
The Contractor or manufacturer shall provide a technician skilled in the use of the chosen
system of pre-stressing to supervise the work and to provide the Engineer such information as in
his judgment may be necessary.
The construction of pre-stressed concrete units shall conform to the requirements stipulated in
other parts of this Section unless otherwise specified herein.

17.4.2 Trunnion Girders and Anchorages for the Spillway Gates
