1. Create a comparative chart between the installation criteria for PVC pipes, copper
pipes and galvanized steel pipes. The chart must contain the following items: [2 points]

a. Codes and standards

b. Design criteria
c. Installation requirements
d. Types of pipe connections
e. Technical specifications for fittings
f. Hydraulic tests

2. Estimate the total daily average water consumption in your house (in liters per day),
considering every existing plumbing fixture. Show your results in a table. Analyze how
your results differ from the values the recommended values established by the World
Health Organization. What can be improved? [1 point]
The following formula is used for the calculation:

The following results were obtained:

According to the recommendations of the WHO, the top of liters per day that must be
consumed by a person is 570 [L/day], so the people in my house are consuming a little
bit less than 10 times more water per day. The pipes should be checked because of a
possible leaking in them, and also we must take saving measures in order to reduce the
consumption of water daily.

3. An estimate of the total drinking water consumed in a building must be established,

in order to obtain a construction permit from a local municipality. Figure 1 shows the
water distribution network of such building and figure 2 shows the legend with the
elements from such network. [1 point]

To perform this task, you must investigate the flow rates required in each
plumbing fixture and assume the following conditions:

a. The kitchen has a sink with cold water, a washer and a dishwasher
b. The bathroom has a toilet, a sink and a shower, all with cold water
c. The following is performed daily in each building (with cold water):
i. Tree discharges in the toilet
ii. The washer is used once during 70 minutes
iii. The dishwasher is used once during 35 minutes
iv. The kitchen sink is used once for five minutes
v. The bathroom sink is used once for 3 minutes
vi. The shower is used once during 15 minutes

In the table below is the information found about flow rates of each plumbing fixture,
using the Table 16.1 of the NEC [L/s]:

4. Provide a brief rationale about the differences between the methods offered by the
International Plumbing Code (see attached file) and NEC-11 Chapter 16, for estimating
the demand in a water supply system. (A table or graph might help) [1 point]
