EXPLORE:
Students from different parts of antique will take time to share the difference in their
culture and beliefs. One of the representatives in their group will share those differences to the
class.

Drill/Review:
What was our last topic all about?
How were you able to help fix communication breakdown?

Motivation:

The students will prepare a piece of paper and the pictures flash on the screen
they will write what comes first into their mind.

After that they should answer the following questions:


What did you see on the screen?
What came into your mind after seeing that picture?
Now share your own understanding with anybody in the class.
Is it different? Why or why not?
What made your understanding of the picture different from the perception of your
classmates?

Statement of Learning Outcomes:


People are different individuals, so they have different perceptions of things. Just like seeing
a black cat; people from PAWS or Philippine Animal Welfare Society will find the black cat cute
while some people may it as a bad omen. These things are what you call social differences. This
week you will be able to know how social differences affect communication so you will be able to
demonstrate sensitivity to socio-cultural dimensions of communication especially focused on
culture, gender, age, social status, and religion.

occasions is done or celebrated by conducting an interview, surfing the internet or

Role Play
Work in groups of four or five. Choose a country. Make sure that your chosen country is
different from the other groups. Research on details of the culture, as such their national
costume, the form of greeting, how to behave in public, the general characteristics of its
citizen and the like.
Present your research through a four-minute talk show featuring a “guest” from the country
your researched. Everyone has to have a speaking role.

With your knowledge of intercultural communication write a creative dialog which
reflects how a barrier in communication can arise and how people can work around it.
 Two people with different religions eating in a restaurant.
 A rich man and a poor man in the cemetery
 An old person and a young person talking about technological advancement.
 A woman and a man talking about their jobs.
 Two people from extremely different countries talking about their family
traditions.
