INTRODUCTON Masonry
It is a building structure by laying brick,
concrete block, stone, or any individual
masonry units. with the use of mortar as a
bonding agent. Masonry construction can
provide beautiful walls and floors at
economical prices.

Concrete
It is an artificial materials used to structural
purposes. It is made by mixing cement and
various aggregates, as sand pebbles, gravel,

with water and allowing the mixture to harden.

CONCRETE
Abram's Law
a law postulating that, with given concrete materials,
curing, and testing conditions, the compression
strength of concrete is Inversely proportional to the
ratio of water to cement.

The common materials in making concrete are

cement, pozzolan, siliceous, and fly ash.

cast-in-place concrete
It is when a concrete is deposited, formed,
cured, and finished in its final position as part of
a structure.

Architectural concrete
an exposed concrete work requiring special care
in the selection of materials, forming, placing,
and finishing to acquire the desired appearance.

"DURABILITY OF CONCRETE
MEANS CAPABILITY OF
CONCRETE TO RESIST ITS
DISINTEGRATION AND DECAY."

Concrete's strength, durability and versatility

ensure it provides solutions for the built
environment that help achieve sustainable
development. It is very inexpensive and
strong, being essential stability in any
construction.

MASONRY
Brick-making was introduced to the British colonies
in North America during the late 17th century. The
earliest manufactured brick was found in virgina.

These are several materials used in masonry;

Mortar
Cement Mortar
Cement-line Mortar
Masonry Cement
Epoxy Cement
Nonstaining Cement
Line Mortar
Lime
Hydrated Lime
Plasticizer

Masonry begins with extractive materials, such as

clay, sand, gravel, and stone. It provides the best
fire resistance of any building material because it
cannot burn, melt or bent.

"MASONRY IS A NON-
COMBUSTIBLE PRODUCT..."
Masonry work is a complex of processes that
includes, in addition to the basic processes by
laying of brick or other stone in mortar, the
delivery and laying out of the stone, and the
smoothing of the mortar, related auxiliary
processes or the erection of scaffolding and
trestles and preparation of the materials at the
construction site. In Ancient times masonry work
was done by hand, but the technology of
masonry began to change in the 1930's. It is a
period of intensive development of construction.
