Notice that stems switch direction at the 3rd (middle) line. This is true with any clef.

Up stems are on the right side of the note: they look like a lower case d.

Down stems are on the left side of the note: they look like a lower case p.

2. Practice writing quarter notes, one on each line and in each space from the bottom to the top of the staff.
