 RECOMMENDATIONS:

 Students are answering straight and simple questions well. But they are facing difficulty in
answering the questions which require deep understanding, analysis and logical thinking.
Teachinglearning process should be more interactive. Field trips, discussions and project works
are to be taken up with great care and interest wherever necessary.

 In all the four areas which were tested(conceptual understanding, responding on social/current
issues ,mapping skills and appreciation and sensitivity),majority of the students all over the state
are found to be in ‘c grade’ only.
Teachers have to take care of these ‘c grade’ students. They have to help and support each
student individually to identify and overcome their learning difficulties.

 Most of the students do not have the knowledge of directions and corners in maps. (Only 26% of
the students could find out the number of north-eastern states in India..Map reading
Q.41).More practice and concentration is required regarding mapping skills. To study the atlas
should be habituated to all the students.

 Use of community resources in TLP is most important.(only 36% of the students could find out
that high interest comes on fixed deposits..Q.5). Banks, post offices, police stations , hospitals,
factories ,courts and such places should be visited.

 Professionals such as bank officials, police officials, doctors, lawyers, people’s representatives
etc are to be invited to social studies class room according to the context and content of the
lesson.

 Percentage of correct responses to the questions on national movement is always below 40.
(Q.12,14,20 and 47).Extensive reading beyond the text book on such topics should be
encouraged.

 With regard to ‘appreciation and sensitivity’, in almost all the districts above 60% of students
are in ‘c grade’. In course of dealing a lesson, issues regarding this academic area are to be
raised either by the teacher or by the students and to be discussed.
