A SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 9

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
a. illustrates the six trigonometric ratios: sine, cosine, tangent, secant, cosecant, and cotangent.
b. solve right triangle applying the six trigonometric ratios.
c. appreciate the concept of trigonometry.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: The Six Trigonometric Ratios (Trigonometric Ratios of Acute Angles)
B. Reference: Triangle Trigonometry Module 7 (LM) pp. 430-446
Teacher’s Guide, pp. 7 - 12
Phoenix Mathematics for the 21st Century Learners, pp. 365-380
C. Instructional materials: Chalk, chalkboard, TV, Laptop, Cut outs, and Powerpoint
Presentation.
D. Subject Integration: Physics (Speed and Velocity)

III. Procedure
A. Preparation
1. Greetings
2. Checking of attendance
3. Motivation: A. “Triangles of Different Sizes”
B. The teacher will ask questions in order for the students recall the
concepts of triangles.
C. Presentation
1. Definition:
2. Solving Triangles Applying The Six Trigonometric Ratios
A. Solving a right triangle given the measure of the two parts; the length of the
hypotenuse and the length of one leg
Example 1: Triangle BCA is right-angled at C. If c = 23 and b = 17, find ∠A, ∠B and a. Express
your answers up to two decimal places.

B. Solving a Right Triangle Given the Length of the Hypotenuse and the Measure of
One Acute Angle.
Example 2: Triangle BCA is right-angled at C if c = 27 and ∠A = 58°, find ∠B, b, and a.

Fixing Skills: Physics

As a hot-air balloon began to rise, the ground crew drove 1.2 mi to an observation
station. The initial observation from that instant is the angle between the ground and
the line of sight to the balloon is 30°. Approximately how high was the balloon at that
point? (Assume that the wind velocity was low and that the balloon rose vertically for
the first few minutes.)
a. Draw the situation.
b. Show your solution
C. Generalization
1. What are the six trigonometric ratios?
2. What is the opposite and adjacent of angle
3. Group Work: Do Activity 4 “Try Me”, p. 442 θ
?
The students will solve right triangles problems applying the six trigonometric
ratios. Ask the students to form groups of six. Assign each group the set of problems
provided in the module and answer the processing questions that follow. In this
activity, students may develop cooperative learning. To discuss their answers ask
them the processing questions. Give further explanation for their queries or
clarification if in case there are some.
IV. Evaluation
A. The teacher will administer a short quiz. Two right triangle problems involving the
six trigonometric ratios.
B. Activity 5 “Use! List! Explain! , p. 444, Learners Materials

V. Assignment/Agreement
Do “Activity 6 (Clinometer) and Activity 7” pp. 444 – 446, nos. 9 and 10.
