Course Title: Theoretical Foundation in Nursing
Course Code: NCM 100
Course Description: This course deals with the Meta concepts of a person, health, environment and nursing as viewed by the
different theorists. Likewise, it includes non-nursing theories such as systems, developmental and change
theories. It presents how these concepts and theories serve as guide to nursing practice. It further deals with
health as a multi-factorial phenomenon and the necessary core competencies that the nurse needs to develop.
Course Credit: 3 units lecture (54 hours)
Independent Study: 51-77 hrs (20-30%)
Placement: 1st semester, 1st year

Level Outcomes At the end of the first year, given simulated situation in selected setting, the learners demonstrate basic nursing
skills in rendering safe and appropriate care utilizing the nursing process.

Learning Contract: The learners are expected to:


 Pass all requirements of the course, including projects, assignments and the like;
 Achieve at least 60% passing percentage in all quizzes, long test and major examinations;
 Submit all requirements on required dates, set by the instructors/s ( late requirements means point deduction);
 Attend the class religiously and must avoid being late or absent ( absences of more than 20% of the total number of hours will be
automatically drop in the course);
 Submit medical certificate and parents/guardians letter immediately after a valid absence; and
 Nursing students should always observe academic honesty. Academic dishonesty in the class such as plagiarizing the words or

ideas of others, cheating on an exam or assignment, or allowing or helping another students to do such things is not allowed,
etc. (Refer to Article 3, Section 12.9 of BukSU’s Student Handbook).
 Be on time. If the students are late within 15 minutes of the scheduled time, they are considered late. Beyond that, the student is
no longer accepted in class or in any RLE activities and is considered absent.
 Active class participation is highly encouraged.
