Teen Activism

When I first thought about Teen Activists, I thought they were regular kids that
do public speaking. After I looked more into this subject, I was astonished to see
how extraordinary they are. Teen Activists aren’t only people who fight for rights.
They put everything they have into getting what they want. Malala fought for
education while McKenna Pope fought for equality. All activists have one thing in
common though. They are all brave because they make sacrifices, they never give
up, and they speak up to the world which requires courage.
The first reason why teen activists are brave, are because they make sacrifices.
A boy named Joshua Wong sacrificed his food by starting a hunger strike. He led
protests through Hong Kong. He also was denied entry in Thailand for an activist
event.(USA Today). He sacrificed his food just for a controversial election.
Another person named Peter, slept outside in the most severe weather just to raise
money for the homeless.(ABC News) He sacrificed his warm cozy home just to
help homeless. These examples show to extent these kids go to, to make things
right.
Another reason why Teen Activists are brave is because they never give up.
Malala for an example, in 2012, she got shot by the Taliban, but that didn't slow
her down, she just kept on fighting for her rights to education, and other kids. In
2013, she and her dad established the Malala Fund, which is to bring awareness for
girls education so they can make their voices heard. After getting a Nobel Peace
Prize, she donated her 500,000 dollars into making a school for girls.(Malala Fund
Website). Another activist named Iqbal escaped from slavery and fought for his
rights to education. He spoke all over the world about what he wanted, and he
knew that he would be in danger when he went to his country, but still didn't give
up. He was murdered when he was twelve.(Iqbal YouTube). This shows
determined they are to fix these problems.
The final reason why Activists are brave is because they speak up to the world,
which requires lots of courage. First of all, McKenna Pope spoke up on TED just
to tell everyone how Hasbro should market toys differently. Another girl named
Molly Burke lost her eyesight when she was 14 and people bullied her. Now she
talks about anti-bullying to the whole world. (Globe and Mail). This shows how
much they want people to help.
When I look back at all this I can't believe how these kids can be so brave. Teen
Activists are brave because they make sacrifices, never give up, and most all, they
speak up.
