6 Mile By-Pass Road Construction Methodology Statement

1.0 Introduction
The proposed Bypass road shall be constructed at the upstream from the existing
culvert at 6 mile to cater for the steady flow of the traffic along the Highlands
Highway. It is the temporary road that will be used by the vehicles during the
permanent culvert works is in progress on site.

2.0 Location
The Bypass road for the traffic passage is going to be constructed at six (6) mile,
Ch.: 302 +110 ~ 302+220, along the Highlands Highway where the existing culvert is
being collapsed. The bypass road is going to be constructed at the upstream from
the existing culvert. The bypass road to be constructed shall be marked out by the
CWYC Survey team and the CWYC Engineers.

3.0 Clearing and Grubbing

Clearing and grubbing for the temporary bypass road shall be done according to the
temporary bypass road design. Clearing and grubbing includes the removal of
vegetation and topsoil within the range of the bypass road. The clearing and
grubbing shall be done under the supervision of the CWYC Engineers, Construction
Site Supervisors and foremen and waste materials shall be dispose legally.

4.0 Excavation

Excavation works for the temporary bypass road shall be done after clearing and
grubbing. The excavation works shall be done according to the temporary bypass
road design. The excavation shall be done to the depth where the soil is stable. The
useful materials from the excavation shall be stock piled on site for later use and the
waste materials shall be disposed legally. The excavation works shall be done under
the supervision of the CWYC Engineers, Construction Site Supervisors and foremen.

5.0 Installation of Culvert for Temporary Bypass Road

After the clearing, grubbing and excavation, the 9m 1800 multi-plate CMP culvert
shall be installed according to the design for the temporary bypass road to safely
excess the flowing creek, storm water, ground water and ponding from the upstream.
The culvert shall be safely installed from the outlet and up to the inlet section. The
culvert works shall be done under the supervision of the CWYC Engineers,
Construction Site Supervisors and foremen.

6. Gabion Works

After installing the culvert for the temporary bypass road, divert the flowing stream to the
culvert and then 5 layers of gabion baskets shall be constructed at the inlet section
according to the drawing. Three layers each on both sides of the inlet and double layer
on top of the 1800 multi-plate CMP Culvert. This gabion baskets are mainly for
protection purposes for the backfill materials and also from running stream washing
away backfill materials.

The gabion works shall be supervised by the CWYC Site Engineer, Site Supervisor and
the Site Forman.

7.0 Backfilling and Compaction

After Excavation and Installation of the 9m 1800 mutilate culvert for the temporary
bypass road, the stockpiled useful materials from the excavation shall be used for
backfilling and shall be compacted to prepare for the application of the river gravel.
River gravel shall be used to backfill up to the design level for the entire section of
the temporary bypass road. After backfilling the compaction shall be done after every
200mm up to the road dimension. For every 200mm compactions, especially for the
culvert, Field Density Test (FDT) shall be done to certify the compaction.
Backfilling and compaction for the 6 mile temporary bypass road shall be supervised
by the CWYC Material Engineer, Site Engineer and the Supervisors.

8.0 Safety
After the temporary bypass road being fully constructed, CWYC Road Safety team
shall carry out necessary road safety measure evaluation and install the safety
measures on both sides of the road to protect the work site and safely flow the traffic
safely to the temporary constructed bypass road.
Safety measures are to be carried out and monitored by CWYC safety officer.
