Introduction
In conjunction with the launch of a new domestic campaign Cuti-Cuti Malaysia ‘Dekat Je’ on
17 June 2015 which encourages more Malaysian to consider local attraction as their choices
of destination. With that, we are required to design, develop, and deliver a two-minute video
montage of our recent holiday vacation. So, the destination I choose is a rural town nearby.
Kubang Kerian is a town, district and parliamentary constituency in Kota Bharu, Kelantan,
Malaysia. The majority of the residents in Kubang Kerian are Muslims. There’s plenty of
Masjid here, but there are no churches or temples nearby. The largest Masjid is the Masjid
Sultan Ismail Petra or known as the Kubang Kerian Blue Mosque, which is 5 minutes from
the campus of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). The area also boasts the Royal Palace of
Kelantan, as well as the official residence of the Sultan of Kelantan and the royal family of
Kelantan Darul Naim
As one of the parliamentary constituency in Kelantan, Malaysia, Kubang Kerian house the
Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and the Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) while
located about 8 kilometers apart, it takes about half an hour to arrive at the Sultan Ismail
Petra Airport by car, but on the other end it took around twenty-four minutes commuting to
Masjid Sultan Ismail Petra by walking from Istana Negeri Kelantan which is just 1.6
kilometers apart. Other than the four key location mentioned above, there’s also several other
place worth visiting with various facilities to accommodate your travelling preference.

Background
‘Pokok kerian berhampiran kubang kerbau’ that’s the short toponymy for the origin of the
name ‘Kubang Kerian’ which can be traced back to several sources. The first part of its name,
‘Kubang’, refers to a Malay term for a watering hole, normally used by water buffalos or
even elephants. The second part its name, ‘Kerian’, refers to the kerian tree, which is a type
of tropical tree that can be found in many parts of Southeast Asia. Another popular origin of
the name comes from the imagery of a large mass of kerian trees in the middle of a lowland
paddy field; when the view is observed from afar, it looks as if though there is an island
floating amongst the paddy.
