Lessons Learnt During the Covid-19 Movement Control Order

The unexpected Covid-19 Pandemic had completely changed our daily life. It brought a lot
of unforeseen conditions to the world wide. Most of the people get affected by this sudden change,
especially economic downturn, financial difficulties, mental and emotional disruptions and so forth.
However, we learnt our precious lessons during this traumatic experience throughout the Movement
Control Order (MCO).

During this Movement Control Order (MCO), we learned to appreciate and pay tribute to
those essential services workers, especially the frontliners like doctors, nurses, policemen and
cleaners. They are our everyday heroes where the doctors and nurses worked restlessly for keeping
us save from the threat of Covid-19. The policemen keep our society safe and even the cleaners help
to maintain the surrounding environment clean. Through this, we also learned to spread our love
and kindness to them who are in need. For instance, the newspapers reported that the good
Samaritans lent their hands to the needy by providing them groceries and daily needs or even donate
money to them. Other than that, the government also provided the poor free hair cut, Covid-19
check-up and even opened up the community centres for the homeless.

Besides that, we also learned to be thrifty and save for the rainy days. This unexpected lock
down caused many lost their jobs and faced serious financial problems. The jobless population
increased as business found it tough to keep afloat and retain staff. As a result, many lost their jobs
and end up on the streets. The main cause which leaded to these problems was people had not
enough savings to support their expenditure. Therefore, we must begin to shop wisely which we
should make a list and buy only what we need but not what we want.

In this unprecedented pandemic, we learned to accept and adapt the new normal. We also
learned to be optimistic no matter in any kind of situations. Both students and teachers are adapting
to a new way of teaching and learning without the social connection and in-person learning
environment. For instance, students started their online learning via virtual platforms such as
Whatsapp, Zoom, Meet, Hangout, etc. Actually what make them to accept and adapt this new
normal are they believe that when there’s a will, there’s a way. Through online learning, the
students will never left behind in their education.

Last but not least, the most important thing we learned is to instil a good hygiene habit
among us. For keeping us from covid-19 virus, we must always follow the Standard Operation
Procedure (SOP) from Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) such as followed the 3W (Wash, Wear
and Warn). We must also avoid going to the crowded places, always maintain one meter social
distancing with each others and keep ourselves clean by washing our hands with soap. Furthermore,
the government ordered people to disinfect the premises such as schools, stalls, supermarket, shop
lots, etc.

By accepting and adapting to the new normal, I think everyone can overcome this tough
situation with unity and cooperation. We had earned many unforgettable experiences and learned
our lessons throughout the Movement Control Order (MCO). Hence, we must think positively to
bring a better world for all of us.
