GENERAL APPROVAL – Initial Approval – Concrete and Masonry Strengthening Using the
SikaWrap Hex Structural Composite System

DETAILS

The above assemblies and/or products are approved when in compliance with the use,
description, design, installation, conditions of approval, and identification of Evaluation Report
No. ESR-3288 reissued December 2016, revised June 2017 of the ICC-ES Evaluation Services,
LLC. The report, in its entirety, is attached and made part of this general approval.

The parts of the ES Report, ESR-3288, which are excluded on the attached copy have been
removed by the Los Angeles Building Department as not being included in this approval.

The approval is subject to the following conditions:

1. Design and installation must be in accordance with this report; the Sika Design Manual,
dated April 7, 2017; the quality control manual, dated May 2017; Sika published
installation guidelines and the 2017 Los Angeles Building Code.

2. Copies of the Sika quality control manual, dated May 2017, and the Design Manual,
dated April 7, 2017 must be submitted to the Structural Plan Check Section for approval
with each project using the system.

RE: Sikadur Hex 300 and Sikadur Hex 301 Fiberwrap Systems, Hex-3R FireLam 505 (fire
resistant coating), and Hex-3R FireLam 506 (fire resistant paint).

3. Complete construction documents, including plans and calculations verifying compliance

with this report must be submitted to the Structural Plan Check Section for each project at
the time of permit application.

4. The construction documents must be prepared by a registered civil or structural engineer

licensed in the State of California.

5. Special inspections must be provided in accordance with Section 1704 through 1707 of
the 2017 Los Angeles Building Code.

6. Application of the composite systems to concrete or masonry at a fabricator’s facility

must be by an approved fabricator complying with Chapter 17 of the 2017 Los Angeles
Building Code or at a jobsite with continuous inspections in accordance with Chapter 17
of the 2017 Los Angeles Building Code.

7. Fire-resistance ratings of column, beam, slab and wall assemblies shall comply with
Chapter 7 of the 2017 Los Angeles Building Code unless the assembly is shown to
comply with Section 4.2.5 of attached ICC-ES evaluation service report, ESR-3288. The
structural load-carrying capacities of the fire-resistance-rated assemblies must be based
on the design of the concrete or masonry without the Sika composite system in
accordance with the 2017 Los Angeles Building Code.

8. SikaWrap Hex materials are manufactured by Sika Corporation, 1682 Marion-

Williamsport Road East, Marion, Ohio, under a quality control program with inspections
by ICC-ES

9. Products of the structural composite system are labeled with the company name (Sika
Corporation) and address, product name, expiration date, evaluation report number (ESR-
3288), and Los Angeles Research Report Number (LARR 25390).

DISCUSSION

The report is in compliance with the 2017 City of Los Angeles Building Code.

The report is based on tests conducted in accordance with the Acceptance Criteria for Concrete
and Reinforced and Unreinforced Masonry Strengthening Using Fiber-reinforced, Composite
Systems (AC125), dated August 2014 (editorially revised November 2015).

This general approval of an equivalent alternate to the Code is only valid where an engineer
and/or inspector of this Department has determined that all conditions of this approval have been
met in the project in which it is to be used.

Addressee to whom this Research Report is issued is responsible for providing copies of it,
complete with any attachments indicated, to architects, engineers and builders using items
approved herein in design or construction which must be approved by Department of Building
and Safety Engineers and Inspectors.
