FAMILY WELLNESS

Your child’s school is receiving fresh fruit and vegetables from The FruitGuys’ Farm-to-
School Program, which helps kids, families, teachers, coaches, and school staff build healthy
habits such as eating fresh fruits and vegetables, and exercising. We hope you will join us!

EAT WELL
Simple food prepared at home can be healthier and less expensive than packaged products.
Try these easy breakfasts or snacks:
● Fresh fruit such as a banana, apple, or berries with oatmeal or cold cereal
● Unsweetened yogurt mixed with nuts and a little honey
● Tortilla with beans and cheese warmed in microwave
● Peeled hard-boiled eggs

SLEEP WELL
Getting enough sleep is essential to feeling your best. Kids ages 6-12 should sleep 9-12
hours, adults need 7-9 hours. Start to wind down an hour before bedtime. Turn off
electronics and keep screens outside of bedrooms at night. Read with your kids, then treat
yourself to a cup of herbal tea before heading to sleep.

UNWIND TOGETHER
Kids and adults need time everyday to relax and recharge.
● Take a walk together
● Visit a park and kick a ball
● Do a puzzle
● Read for pleasure
● Dance to your favorite songs
● Relax and do nothing!

TALK IT UP
Make time for conversations. Try a game of Roses and Thorns to get kids and adults talking:
Take turns sharing a “rose” (something good about your day), a “thorn” (something challenging
about your day), and a “bud” (something you’re looking forward to).

TRY NEW FOODS

Taste something new at the salad bar. Visit a farmers market to see fruits and veggies in
season and try a sample. Go with your family to the grocery store and pick out a new food to
cook at home. Try a different fruit or veggie each week and discover your favorites!

MOVE AND PLAY

To feel our best, we need to move! Take a walk with a friend, play tag at recess, climb and
swing at the playground, ride a bike, play ball, or dance to your favorite song.

CALM YOUR MIND

To quiet your mind: close your eyes and slowly count ten breaths. Repeat until you feel
relaxed. If something is on your mind, talk it over with friends or family.

BE A FRIEND
Spend time with people who make you feel good. Enjoy face-to-face conversations: talk more,
text less! If a friend is upset, be a good listener and ask how to help. Practice kindness: say
something nice to someone today.
