Problem Statement

Malaysian students who aim to further their undergraduate studies in local universities are required
to sit for Malaysian University English Test (MUET). Administered by the Malaysian Examination
Council (MEC), MUET is a proficiency test that aims to measure pre-university students’ proficiency of
the language for four main skills - reading, writing, speaking and listening. Nevertheless, only those
who are undertaking STPM in form six are given MUET lessons in which they are taught to master the
four skills to prepare them for the test. Unlike these form six students, other MUET candidates from
public and private pre-university or diploma studies are often left to deal with these challenging tests
on their own. They either had to take private coaching or attend workshops prior to sitting for MUET
tests. Unfortunately, such measures are not accessible to many students especially those who live in
rural areas. These students might not have access to face-to-face tutorials to assist them in scoring
the required band, but they could benefit from an online learning program which is made accessible
to everyone. MOOC for MUET Reading and Writing is designed to cater for students who are going to
be tested on their reading and writing skills . Prepared with authentic materials at par with the MEC’s
standard and format, these online resources offer MUET candidates from all over Malaysia to sharpen
both their reading and writing skills at their own pace. With online learning, all MUET candidates are
given an equal chance to succeed in the exam.
