Introduction and Opening Prayer

In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy
Spirit

Amen.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of

God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you
all.

And with your spirit.

Deirdre and William, the Church shares your joy and

warmly welcomes you, together with your families and
friends, as today, in the presence of God our Father, you
establish between yourselves a lifelong partnership. May
the Lord hear you on this your joyful day. May he send
you help from heaven and protect you. May he grant you
your hearts' desire and fulfil every one of your prayers.

Gloria
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to the
people of good will.
We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify
you.
We give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God,
heavenly King, O God, Almighty Father.
Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,
Lord God, Lamb of God, So of the Father,
You take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;
You take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;
You are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy
on us.
For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,
You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy
Spirit,
In the glory of God the Father.
Amen

Let us pray.
O God, who consecrated the bond of Marriage by so
great a mystery that in the wedding covenant you
foreshadow the Sacrament of Christ and his Church,
grant,
we pray, to these your servants, that what they receive in
faith they may live out in deeds, Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Lighting of the Candles

♫ Thousand Years

William and Deirdre each light a candle as a symbol of

their individual lives which will soon come together in the
bond of marriage.
Liturgy of the Word
First Reading
A reading from the Book of Genesis

Then God said:

“Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Let them
have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air,
and the cattle, and over all the wild animals and all the
creatures that crawl on the ground.
God created man in his image; in the image of God he
created him; male and female he created them. God blessed
them, saying;

“Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Have
dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and
all the living things that move on the earth.”
God looked at everything he had made, and he found it
very good.

This is the word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm

R. How good is the Lord to all.

Second Reading
A reading from St Paul to the Corinthians

Be ambitious for the higher gifts. And I am going to show

you a way that is better than any of them. If I have all of the
eloquence of men or of angels, but speak without love, I am
simply a gong booming or a cymbal clashing. If I have the
gifts of prophecy, understanding all the mysteries there are,
and knowing everything, and if I have faith in all its
fullness, to move mountains, but without love then I am
nothing at all. If I give all away that I possess, piece by
piece, and if I even let them take away my body to burn it,
but am without love, it will do me no good whatever.
Love is always patient and kind: It is never rude or selfish;
it does not take offence, and is not resentful. Love takes no
pleasure in other people’s sins, but delights in the truth; it
is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope and to endure
whatever comes. Love does not come to an end. In a word,
there are three things which last forever, faith, hope and
love- the greatest of these is love.

This is the word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Gospel Acclamation
Alleluia, alleluia!
God is love, if God loved us, we also must love one
another.
Alleluia!
Gospel
From the Holy Gospel according to John

Jesus said to his disciples, “As the Father has loved me, so
I have loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my
commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have
kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.

I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in

you, and that your joy may be complete. This is my
commandment, that you love one another as I have loved
you”.

This is the Gospel of the Lord.

Thanks be to God

Rite of Marriage
Dearly beloved,
You have come together into the house of Church, so
that in the presence of the Church's minister and the
community your intention to enter into Marriage may be
strengthened by the Lord with a sacred seal. Christ
abundantly blesses the love that binds you. Through a
special Sacrament, he enriches and strengthens those he
has already consecrated by Holy Baptism, that they may
be faithful to each other for ever and assume all the
responsibilities of married life. And so, in the presence of
the Church, I ask you to state your intentions:
P. Deirdre & William, you have come to this church
together so that the Lord may seal your love in
the presence of the Priest and this Community.
Have you come here to enter into marriage
without coercion, freely and wholeheartedly?
D&W. We have.
P. William, are you resolved to take Deirdre to be
your wife: to love her, comfort her, honour and
protect her, and forsaking all others, to be faithful
to her as long as you both shall live?
W. I am.
P. Deirdre, are you resolved to take William to be
your husband: to love him, comfort him, honour
and protect him, and forsaking all others, to be
faithful to him as long as you both shall live?
D. I am.
P. Are you prepared to accept children lovingly from
God and bring them up according to the Law of
Christ and His Church?
D&W. We are.
Declaration of Consent & Blessing of the
Rings

P. Since it is your intention to enter the covenant of

Holy Matrimony, join your right hands and
declare your consent before God and His Church.
W. I, William, take you, Deirdre as my wife, for
better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in
sickness and in health, to love and to cherish all
the days of my life.
D. I, Deirdre, take you, William as my husband, for
better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in
sickness and in health, to love and to cherish all
the days of my life.
P. May the Lord bless these rings, which you will
give to each other as a sign of love and fidelity.
W. Deirdre, wear this ring as a sign of our faithful
love. In the name of the Father, and the Son, and
the Holy Spirit, Amen.
D. William, wear this ring as a sign of our faithful
love. In the name of the Father, and the Son, and
the Holy Spirit, Amen.
P. In the presence of God, and before this
congregation, Deirdre and William have given
their consent and made their marriage vows to
each other by the exchange of rings. What God
has joined together let no man separate.
Therefore in the name of God, I am happy to
pronounce that they are husband and wife.

Prayer After Communion

Ni féidir liom saol lán le gréine I cannot promise you a lifetime

a ghealladh duit, of sunshine,
Ní gheallfaidh mé saibhreas, I cannot promise riches, wealth
maoin ná ór, or gold,
Ní féidir liom bealach éasca a I cannot promise you an easy
ghealladh duit, pathway
A cheallaigh athrú nó éirí sean. That leads away from change
or growing old.
Ach geallaim dúthracht mo
But I can promise all my hearts
chroí duit,
devotion,
Miongáire a shaorfaidh tú ó do
A smile to chase away your
dheora,
tears of sorrow,
Geallaim grá síoraí i gcónaí A love that’s ever true and
duit, ever growing,
Mo lámh i do lámh go deo. A hand to hold in yours
through each tomorrow.
