Pakistan Organisation (SCO) was held from February 19 to 20
to discuss different aspects of cooperation between
the SCO member states and regional security. They
have agreed on joint training and military exercises.

The committee has been formed under the aegis of Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare,

During the FY2020-21 budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed to set up Kisan Rail
through the public-private-partnership (PPP) mode for a cold supply chain to transport perishable

Two special committees were formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to deal with the issues and
approvals related to the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF). The two new panels will deal with decision

be decided between Home Ministry and CAPFs.

Ministers meeting chaired by Russia on covid-19
which was held through video conferencing, which

Lavrov. It should be noted that Russia is the Chair of
BRICS for 2020. During the meet BRICS countries
have agreed to set up a $15 billion loan instrument
for the economic rebuilding of member-states
impacted by COVID-19 crisis. The fund will be
allocated through the New Development Bank
(NDB). NDB founded by BRICS already fast-tracked
financial assistance of about $5 billion to BRICS
countries.

Conference committee on Fiscal Consolidation Roadmap was
held through video conferencing. The committee
headed by Nand Kishore (NK) Singh has
recommended the judgement of Reserve Bank of
India on monetisation of fiscal deficit, as RBI is
government’s principal debt manager. The
Committee also estimated India’s GDP growth to -
6% to 1% in the financial year 2020-21. The
committee supported the Centre’s decision of
allowing states to borrow up to 5% of gross state

7-member committee formed to enhance audit independence and accountability: MCA
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has constituted a 7-member committee to examine the comments
received on the consultation paper floated by it & make recommendations which require any
amendments in law, rules and standards so as to enhance audit independence and accountability.

6-member panel to set up to review production sharing contracts: Central Government

The ministry of petroleum and natural gas has set up a 6-member panel to review the existing Production
Sharing Contracts (PSCs) due to the fall in crude oil prices and the COVID-19 lockdown. The committee is
a Public Sector Undertakings (PSU)-Director General of Hydrocarbon (DGH)-dominated panel & there is
no representation from the private sector, industry bodies, and from top bureaucratic circles.

Registration Committee recommends banning use of TB drug on crops

The Registration Committee (RC) under the Central Insecticides Board and Registration Committee
(CIBRC) under the Chairmanship of S. K. Malhotra has recommended the use of Tuberculosis (TB) drugs
(antibiotics) like streptomycin and tetracycline to be banned completely with immediate effect on crops
where other options were available for bacterial disease control. The streptomycin is recognised as a
critically important medicine for human use by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Government implements Shekatkar Committee’s recommendations to create border

infrastructure
Government has accepted and implemented 3 important recommendations of Committee of Experts
(CoE) under the Chairmanship of Lieutenant General D B Shekatkar (Retd) relating to border
Infrastructure so as to speed up road construction, which leads to socio-economic development in the
border areas. The Committee was set up by former defence minister Manohar Parrikar in 2016.

Textiles Committee named as 9th approved laboratory to test and certify PPE body coveralls;
developed fully indigenous Design PPE Testing Equipment
Mumbai based Textiles Committee of Ministry of Textiles was named as the ninth approved laboratory
to test and certify Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) body coveralls produced in the country for
healthcare workers and other COVID-19 warriors. India has become the world’s second largest
manufacturer of PPE body coveralls, following China.
