Assignment – 2.1
Modify the following statement to make it impersonal.
I ran a series of hardness tests on the valve seals for Bob
MacArther from the shops division, and I found that three of
the seals were below normal. I also notified Harry Randall
and Phylis Carter so that the two of them could do Rockwell
measurements on future value seals.

Answer :

MacArther from the shops division, and found that three of
the seals were below normal. Also notified individuals so that
the they could do rock-well measurements on future value
seals.

Assignment 2.2
Concise the following statement.
Polymer surfaces were studied to determine if physical surface
changes occur with continued UV exposure. This program was
necessitated to meet customer expectations for a longtime
company with world-class name recognition. If surface
degradation is in fact occurring, we need to ascertain and
assess the severity of this degradation. Moreover, it is
imperative that we address any product deficiencies so that
the company image as a supplier of robust products is not
denigrated.
Answer :
A study was conducted to quantify UV damage to polymer
surfaces. This work was done to satisfy customer concerns
about the weatherability of sun shields made from our outdoor
grade of polypropylene.

Assignment 2.4
Explain ―5 Cs of technical writing with appropriate examples.
Answer :
CORRECT:
Correctness the sentences and the topic characteristics.
Another important aspect of Correctness, particularly in
technical writing, is conformance to the truth, to logic, and to
the facts. However, It should never get in the way of factual
incorrectness and inaccuracy. Better to tell the whole truth and
nothing but the truth – and leave the fudge factor to the
confectioneries.
If I were a Computer Science Professor, I would start my first
day of class by teaching my students The basics of Computer
Science: “Spell the names correctly.” This has become
increasingly important in the age of electronic search and
retrieval.
CLEAR:
Making sure the purpose of technical writing and its intent is
clear and straight forward to the reader. And the subject matter
and relay information is organized in a well-defined and concise
manner.
For example, It is the purpose of this report to present the
results of a statistical study on the failure rate of spring latches
on a type D cardiology cassette. There have been a number of
latch failures uncovered in the inspection cycle, and this work is
the first step in reducing the latch failure rate to less than three
ppm failure rate.
COMPLETE:
Including all the necessary information.In-completeness is the
absence of facts of technical writing, which can make the form
of writing redundancy, repetition, digressions, distractions, and
the use of multiple words when a single. Our aspects the well
chosen words. Direct and focused writing is the path of
completeness.
While we must support our ideas with relevant details and
examples, while we sometimes need explanations to clarify
concepts, we must exercise verbal economy.
CONSISTENT:
It defines the systematic or logical connection or an integration
of diverse elements or relationships between our goal and
writing. Consistency is the golden thread that ties all the parts
together into a unified whole. It has to do with continuity and
flow, with good connections among the ideas and markers and
provides a path to Clarity.
Much of the writing I have the privilege of fixing is basically a
mass of bullet points. For some reason, that’s how engineers
think. When they try to tie multiple bandoliers of bullets together
to show how they are all related to the same overall system,
they often end up being wordy.
CHANGEABLE:
It controls what information we include that can help us stay on
topic and on target and it can be changeable when needed.
We have complete control over this, but sometimes writers
don’t exercise enough control in their writing. Control requires
discipline and organization, knowing the rules and following
them, and confining our thinking .
