Series Test 1
June 2020
Time 1 hour, Maximum marks 20
Answer any two questions. The answer scripts shall be scanned and sent to
unnikrishnan_n@gectcr.ac.in with subject line as “Class No. Series I Name AFE” within 15 minutes of
ending the test (within 1 hour 15 minutes of starting the test).
For example B batch class no. 45 will have subject line “245 Series I Vyshnav KS AFE” . Please remember
to prefix 1 for batch A and 2 for batch B class numbers as above.
Assume any missing data.

1. A rectangular footing L x Bm in dimensions is placed at a depth of Df m below the ground surface.

Depth of ground water table is Dwm. Below the existing ground level.
The soil stratum comprises of silty sand having the following properties.
angle of internal friction f, bulk unit weight g kN/m3, cohesion c kPa.
The load is at an eccentricity of ex with the centroid towards the length direction and ey with the
centroid towards the width direction.
Inclination of the load is alpha with the vertical. Compute the ultimate load carrying capacity of the
footing. Use IS 6403 approach.
