Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony


between MIT-MAHE and CBRI Rourkee
&

One-Day Workshop on Earthquake Resistant Design and Precast


Structures
On 29th October, 2018, Manipal Institute of Technology and CSIR-Central Building Research Institute
signed an important MoU, which facilitates exchange of students, student project works, trainings and
research facilities between them. This key formal event was coordinated by Department of Civil
Engineering. Dr.Ajay Chourasia, Senior Principal Scientist represented CBRI.

Dr. Chourasia was received with warm greetings by MIT representation which included Dr.Srikanth Rao,
Director MIT, Dr.BHV Pai, Joint Director of MIT, Dr.K Balakrishna Rao, Head of Civil Dept., Dr.Gopinath
Nayak, Prof. Prakash Rao and Mr. Abhimanyu U. Then, the guest had brief interaction with MIT
representation in the office of Director. He appreciated the MoU initiative undertaken by MIT, also admired
the MIT administration for its high quality education and well maintained campus. Dr.Chourasia was
accompanied to Board Room, where he presented the various facilities and benefits offered by CBRI under
the proposed MOU. After the presentation, the Director MIT and Dr.Chourasia signed and exchanged MoU
between the two institutions. Director also remarked the advantages of the MoU and appreciated
Dr.Gopinath Nayak and Dept. of Civil in general, for coordinating the whole event.
As second part of event, Dr. Chourasia conducted a workshop on Earthquake Resistant Design and Precast
Structures which was held in ICT seminar Hall in AB5. This event was attended by many Masters students
as well as Structure minor spl. Students from 7th semester. Dr.Chourasia touched upon the basics of
Earthquake Resistant Design in a detailed manner. He also emphasized those area which one must know
for bridging the gap between industry and academia. His presentation included the highlight of benefits and
facilities offered to students in CBRI, also motivation for taking up research in different areas. After the
talk, there was an extensive discussion between students and guest speaker. Then, Dr. Gopinatha Nayak
thanked him for the enriching talk and presented a memento on behalf of MIT.
Later, Dr.Chourasia and members of civil department had an interactive session in Dept. office. In the
evening, the guest paid a visit to KEF R&D centre construction site along with a few faculty members of
Civil Dept. He actively and enthusiastically observed the construction practices and held a detailed
discussion with engineer in charge of the site before concluding the eventful day.
