Ministry in the Midst of a Pandemic...Still

Despite continued COVID restrictions and mask mandates, we were still able
to pack so much into this month. The second session of electives happened
for the first three weeks of the month and were full of mountain biking
adventures, extreme leisure “hikes” to ice cream shops, baking, just hanging
out, and sweet community built on quality time and the Good News of the
Gospel. Each 2-hour elective session included a 30 minute devotional
created by our summer staff that focused on the theme to “Love Thy
Neighbor” and included Scripture that the youth were challenged to
memorize and recite the following week. Memorizing verses was not
something I had put much thought into while growing up, but I now realize
the continuous challenges that drive my need for Scripture to fight the
enemy.

While the normal summer mountain adventures with the youth was not able
to happen, we were still able to find a way to camp with some of our youth
by inviting their families to join us. This ensured that youth were more
socially distanced in their families' cars during traveling and in their own
tents at night. We camped at Custer State Park, South Dakota, played all the
Spikeball at the lake, saw Mount Rushmore, and were convicted of our sin Hiking Elective in Ute Valley
