The thesis or capstone project should also demonstrate the
student's analytic and interpretive skills. Both the thesis and the
capstone project serve as a summative expression of what a
student has learned in academic degree program.

• Thesis is the document describing the Project Work carried out

as a part of partial fulfillment of academic requirement to get a
degree.

• It describes the complete process of the project starting from the

problem formulation to the solution and conclusions in a
Scientific and Methodical manner.

• It requires more time to pursue.

PROJECT?

• A capstone project is simply a big and highly extensive

academic project that is undertaken by student as a final task in

their academic degree programs. The capstone is more or less a

research project.

• It includes more internal milestones and due dates.

•The main difference between a capstone project and a thesis is

that a capstone project addresses a specific problem, issue or

concern in your field of study, and a thesis attempts to create new

knowledge. A capstone project focuses on a narrow, specific

topic, whereas a thesis addresses a broader, generalized issue.

OF THESIS ?
While carrying out the project, the delegates get an
opportunity to work on technical problem and bring out the
solution by following scientific and technical methods.

During this phase the delegates put all their learning and
apply the theoretical knowledge and analytical skills gained
during the course to derive the solutions.

proceedings of the project and gives a thorough training for the
candidate to re-look at the presentation skills.

It is a proud document a student can produce to prove his/her

capability to analyze and solve an engineering problem.

Thesis are often considered to be the testimonials for the

candidates who aspire for a good job or higher education.

PAPER?

Major papers presented as the final project for a

master's degree are normally called thesis; and
major papers presenting the student's research towards a
doctoral degree are called theses or dissertations.

BETWEEN A THESIS AND A
DISSERTATION?

According to the authors, “there is no clear

distinction between the terms” but that among “U.S.
universities, it has become common to distinguish between
dissertations and theses by referring to the work done for a
master's degree as a thesis and that done for a doctoral degree
as adissertation.”
