A radial gate as shown in is used as a control gate at the crest of a small spillway. If the
width of the gate is 9 meters, find the following

a) The horizontal component (Ph)

b) The vertical component (Pv)

c) The total Hydrostatic Pressure P


d) The angle of inclination Ø from the horizontal axis. Use density of water = 1000
kg/m3

The small piston shown below has an area “a” of 75 cm 2 and that of the larger piston has
an area “A” of 500 cm2. What force F in kilo- Newton should be applied in the fulcrum at
point C so that the weight of 3000 kg will be in equilibrium and considering that the
underside of the larger piston is 1 meters below the underside of the smaller piston. The
liquid in the intervening passage is oil and has a specific gravity of 0.85.
