 Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is an agency of the Government of


India responsible for urban poverty, housing, and employment programs. It is involved
in national policy decisions and coordinates with Indian central ministries, state
governments, and central sponsor programs. The Ministry was created in 2004 after
splitting it from the Ministry of Urban Development.
The government, in 2017, merged the urban development and housing and urban
poverty alleviation ministries as the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).

The Indian Constitution has allocated responsibility for housing and urban
development to the state; and the 74th amendment to the Constitution delegates some
responsibility to the local governments. The ministry is responsible for the national
capital territory of Delhi and union territories. It also provides finances through federal
institutions and allocates resources to the state governments. The ministry supports the
country's external housing and urban development assistance programs.

 National Cooperative Housing Federation of India

The National Cooperative Housing Federation of India (NCHF) was established in the year,
1969 as an apex organization of cooperative housing sector. Its primary objective is to
promote, coordinate and facilitate the operations of member organizations and housing
cooperatives to enable them to provide affordable houses to their members. In pursuance
of its objectives, NCHF has achieved substantial progress in the growth and development of
housing cooperatives. The State level Apex cooperative housing federations (ACHFs) are
members of NCHF. These ACHFs are engaged in channelizing long term housing loans from
financial institutions to both the affiliated housing cooperatives as well as individual
members for the construction/financing of dwelling units in their respective States. NCHF
has been organizing need based training programmes for upgrading the knowledge and
managerial skills of the personnel of housing cooperatives so as to enhance efficiency in
productivity. It undertakes research studies and compiles data/information; brings out
important publications on cooperative housing and related fields; organizes
seminars/conferences to d)Siscuss various problems faced by housing cooperatives; and
provides guidance to housing cooperatives on general insurance of their properties against
various perils at reasonable premium. It also publishes a monthly journal called ‘NCHF
Bulletin’.

 Central Building Research Institute

The Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) at Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India, is a


constituent establishment of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, India and has
been vested with the responsibility of generating, cultivating and promoting building
science and technology in the service of the country.
Since its inception in 1947, the Institute has been assisting the building construction and
building material industries in finding timely, appropriate and economical solutions to the
problems of building materials, health monitoring and rehabilitation of structures,
disaster mitigation, fire safety, energy-efficient rural and urban housing. The Institute is
committed to serving the people through R&D in the development process and
maintains linkages at international and national level.
At the national level of India, the Institute has close interaction with BMTPC, HUDCO,
DST, Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Rural Areas, Housing Boards and
Societies of the State Governments, engineering and academic institutions, construction
and building material industries.

 Central Government Employees Welfare Housing


Organization

Central Government Employees Welfare Housing Organisation is an autonomous


organisation of the Indian Government established in 1995. The organisation was
established to construct and manage non-profit housing for serving and retired
employees of the Union Government of India and their families.[1] Since 1995 the
organisation has constructed two houses every day
 Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council
(BMTPC)
It provides solutions for identification, installation, and development of technology used
in construction purposes. Complete support is provided for the development of building
materials from agricultural and industrial waste

For new entrants in this industry, BMTPC has multifaceted assistance through advisory
services for the selection of target market, installation of technology, acquisition of
capital, prototype development, and training of artisans and professionals
