Assalamualaikum and good morning to my beloved teacher and friends .

Today im going to share

with u guys abt the history of domestic cats..

The English word “cat” came from the Late Latin cattus which mean ‘domestic cat’,compare
also Portuguese and Spanish gato and French chat
The first question that always wondering in my mind is where and when does cats exist ?
From my research, the cat were founded late in ancient Egypt 4,000 years ago and perhaps
beyond as a sacred creatures ( something that are connected to the god ) because they thought
that cats can reduce disease and protect crops ( the plant ). The Egyptian aren’t allowed to kill
the cats unless they want to have a bad luck. The historian, Herodatus reports that whenever a
household cat died , the entire family will mourn by wearing black clothes and shave their
eyebrows. The families took their dead cats to the place where they stored all the sacred things
which is in the sacred city of Bubastis to show their respect towards cats.
Next question is, how cat become popular ?
Its believed that Egyptian traders originally introduced cats to Europe . The cats become popular
because the Europian never saw a cat before. The ancient Greeks called the cats as ailourus
which mean “thing with the waving tail”. The house cats seem to be very rare among the ancient
Greeks and Romans because they thought that cats are a wild animals and will harm them in
their sleep just like snakes . But they used cats as a pest control to get rid of rodents. In 1348,
Europe are attacked by disease. They called it The Black Death because all the people with the
disease will have so many black dots and spots around their body. The rulers ordered the killing
of all the cats in Europe because the cats were suspected of carrying the disease. It wasn’t until
1600s , cats reputation starts to recover because they find out that the disease are carried by the
black rats. Then, domestic cats were spread throughout much of the rest of the world as ships’
cats were carried on sailing ships to control shipboard rodents and as a good luck charms for
them.
After the Egyptian dynasty collapsed, cats became popular elsewhere. In the Far East or East
Asia including our country, cats were originally owned by the rich. As their popularity grew, the
domesticated cat made its way to surrounding countries like India and Japan. This is when
breeding also began, with breeds such as the Siamese and Burmese first emerging in Thailand.

Several ancient religions believed cats are exalted souls, companions or guides for humans, that
are all-knowing but mute so they cannot influence decisions made by humans. For example, in
Japan, the maneki neko cat is a symbol of good fortune. In Islam , Muslim revered cats so much.
Our prophet Muhammad SAW also loved cats and one of his companions, Abu Hurayrah
( Father of the kittens ) loved cats just like our prophet.

Nowadays, cats are a key part of modern society . They continue to be an important and special
part of people lives. In Malaysia, cats are one of the most-owned pet by Malaysian. If you guys
have a cats, take care and love them just like how you guys love food because they are very
precious and cute. I end my oral speech with quotes that saying “The cat does not offer services,
the cat offer itself for you”. Thank you.
