CHECKLIST FOR VERTICAL ROOF ENCLOSURE FOR SUB-CRITICAL

BOILERS.

1. Vertical Roof Enclosure is for to maintain the inside temperature on Penthouse and

outside of Penthouse getting cooled from Atmospheric air.

2. Vertical Roof Enclosure is not gas/air tight sealing.

3. APIL Scope is Design the Vertical members, stiffener angles size and preparing

the design/arrangements drawings.

4. Before start the Vertical Roof Enclosure drgs, collect the following Inputs from

Alstom Inc.,

a). General Arrangement of Side Elevation, Front and Rear section views and Plan

View Drawings.

b). PPA – Sectional Side Elevation (Upper Furnace) Drawings.

c). PPA – Section Side Elevation (Backpass & Economiser) Drawings.

d). PPA – Plan View “A-A” Headers & Links (Furnace) Drawings.

e). PPA – Plan View “A1-A1” Headers & Links (Backpass) Drawings.

f). Furnace and Backpass Panels drawings.

g). Pressure part conn. & EXP.Movement diagram drawings (Total 5 drgs.)

h). Steam Drum Hanger support location Drawings.

i). Vertical Roof Enclosure related buckstay drawings

j). Structural Steel (tubing) arrangements Drawings

k). Wind Load Details for sizing the members.

l). Data sheet for pourable insulation and mineral wool.

m). Weight details for Corrugated sheet and roof decking for sizing the members.
5. Length, Breadth, Width and Elevation of vertical Roof Enclosure as per the

General Arrangement Drawings.

6. Structural Steel (Tubing) dimensions = 12” x 6”, as per Alstom inc. standard.

7. Locate the Manhole as per General arrangements drawing. If any inconvience

slightly can change the location of manholes.

8. Provide the stopper assembly at front side of boiler.

9. Ensure the project optimized unit or non optimized unit.

10. Inside the vertical roof enclosure no insulation on steam drum, insulated on the

steam drum from outside the vertical roof enclosure.

11. Ensure the clearance between the steam drum and framing members, because

drum will expand.

12.

STIRRUP PLATE (Ref. Attached Sketch No.)

13. If optimized unit, prepare the SWA drawings for the Stirrup plate location on the

Furnace panels for front, right side, left side and Backpass panels for right side, left

side and rear side.

14. The stirrup plate is for support the shelf plate.

15. Stirrup plate pitch not more than 3’-6” as per the Alstom inc. standard.

16. Provide the stirrup plate for the furnace and backpass panels at four sides, except

the boiler anchor location. At anchor location provide the anchor beam at four

sides.

17. The stirrup plate having Rad. ½” vertical slot hole as per the Alstom inc. standard.

18. The elevation of the stirrup plate id 1 ½” below from the top of shelf plate.
19. The stirrup plate one side has welded with panel and other side bolted with shelf

plate and the stirrup plate will move along with panel by expansion movements.

20. The stirrup plate thk. and other dimensions as per the Alstom inc. standard. Ref.

Std. Drg. No. & J.K. Spruce contract drawings.

21. Avoid the stirrup plate at the location of panel to panel field weld.

ANCHOR BEAM (Ref. Attached Sketch No.)

22. The anchor beam size is W5 x 6 is as per the Alstom Inc. standard.

23. Anchor beam having the dia. 11/16” hole as per the Alstom inc. standard.

24. The Location of the anchor beam is center line of four side of unit as well as

location of anchor point of boiler.

25. The elevation of the anchor beam is 1 ½” below from the top of shelf plate.

26. The Anchor Beam one side has welded with panel and other side bolted with shelf

plate and zero expansions movements at this point.

VERTICAL MEMBER (Ref. Attached Sketch No.)

27. Provide the vertical members pitch not more than 7’-0” and it must near to stirrup

plate. So that vertical member load and movement load should transfer to panels

through stirrup plate.

28. The Vertical member run between the steel tubing and buckstay / tie beam.

29. The vertical member penetrating the shelf, so that in shelf plate have flexible

arrangement for allowing the vertical member for expansions movement.

30. The vertical member are not a fixed support, the vertical member top end

supported from steel tubing by bolt connection and bottom end supported from

buckstay by guide support.

31. Based on the vertical members location, Alstom inc structural dept. will finalise the

lifting lug location on the steel tubing for supporting the vertical members.

32. If vertical members bottom end are connected to panels by shelf plate. Consider

the presetting dimensions for fixing the vertical members for allowing the

expansion movements.

33. Presetting dimensions should be the half of the panel expansions movement

dimensions.

34. The expansion hole dimension in shelf plate, based on the panel expansion

movement dimension.

35. No presetting required for vertical members at the location of steam drum,

because the vertical members are not supported to panels.

36. Avoid to locating the vertical members near to steam drum hanger rod.

37. Provide the stiffeners outside the vertical members and should be ring form for

four sides.

38. Stiffeners spacing not more than 7’-0” as per Alstom inc. standard.

39. Floor beam arrangement for under the steam drum and provide the pourable

insulation with roof decking.

40. Ensure the clear gap between downcomers and floor beam under the steam

drum.
41. Ensure the clear gap between the furnace top buck stay beam and floor beam

under the steam drum.

42. Lug length should be more than pourable insulation height.

43. In between the every vertical members (7’-0” span) provide two stiffeners on

bottom of the shelf plate.

44. Ref. Reference drawings for shelf plate corner arrangements.

45. Shelf plate one end connected with stirrup plate and other end weld with angle.

46. Every three vertical members having the stiffeners, no weld between the vertical

members and stiffeners, middle connection fixed arrangement with bolt and other

two side sliding arrangements with bolt connection.

47. Floor beam three side supported by structural steel (tubing) through vertical

members and other side supported by furnace roof inlet header through supported

links with considering the preset value.
