What sport do you follow in Colombia and why?

(If you don’t follow sports here, or at all, explain

why not.)

In Colombia there are a wide variety of incredible sports that are worth practicing and are very
interesting, such as athletics, for example. It is the art of exceeding the performance of opponents
in speed or resistance, in distance or in height. Colombia has great competitors that have made
history and have obtained excellent performance in different international competitions. Caterine
Ibargüen, Ximena Restrepo, Luis Fernando López, Eider Arévalo, Jaime Aparicio are, to name a few,
the 5 best athletes in Colombian history acting as sprinters, walkers or jumps.

 What do you think about the popularity of football and the fact that it receives more attention
from the government than other sports? Is it fair?

Despite the fact that I practice soccer in different modalities, it is not part of my favorite sports or
that I enjoy the country, because I consider that Colombian soccer has shortcomings and must
improve. Additionally, there are great athletes who are part of other great competitions
worldwide and it is unfair that they do not receive the recognition they are due while soccer
players maintain a popularity, in many cases, irrational.

 What can we do in order to help athletes in other disciplines to have better conditions and
support?

Pressure should be exerted on the part of the agencies or departments of the other sports so that
they obtain benefits similar to those that are granted to players in high-level competitions at
international levels. Additionally, keep in mind that, despite the fact that soccer is a sport that
moves the masses, contribute to discovering that others provide great fun as well.

 How can we motivate national channels to broadcast a wider type of sport programs and not just
football?

As citizens we could begin to demand that other competitions be broadcast so that national
channels can notice that not only football brings us recognition and is a symbol of effort and
struggle.
