STUDY

Impressionist artists focussed on the effects of light and often used bright colours and loose brushwork within
their compositions. Claude Monet’s work documented the same place many times to capture how the lighting
effected the colour on a scene.
Step 1:
Select a place of intest or meaning to you. Be sure you are able to visit this place.

Step 2:
Use a variety of oil pastel techniques to experiment with how you view the place in a specific time. Pay
attention to how the lighting creates colour on that place in that moment. Draw your experience with light
and colour in that moment.

Step 3: Revisit this place at a different time and re draw this place. Consider the following questions:
How has the lighting changed the colour
How has the lighting changed my experience?
What effect does my mood or emotions change how I experience or depict this place?
How does my impression of this place reflect who I am? Culturally, emotionally, spiritually, physically?

**Note: This project is created to be explored through the distant learning model in September. If this
project were to be addapted to be done at school students may be instructed to take photographs of the
place at different times and draw from a combination of memory and photographs.
